Update on the portals-

Was originally waiting to share this until a solution was confirmed, but it’s been too long and the information needs to be shared with current owners.

We have noticed a leak on our boxes and originally thought it was from the drain plugs. After tearing everything apart to loctite every assembly bolt and caliper bracket, we discovered it was the fill plug. The design they decided to go with is a bit of a let down as it’s just a simple o-ring. Tighten the plug to where it feels sufficient to not back out, and the o-ring squishes out the sides. Loosen it a little and well, it seems inadequate. We tried to find a happy medium between the two and clearly didn’t get it perfect. The rig is washed (primarily underneath) after every outing to make it easier to spot leaks and verify paint marks on bolts, so the pictures only show one day of wheeling.

A call was made to 74Weld and they already knew of the issue and had made a redesign to future batches. Great, but that doesn’t help me or any of the other owners. Asked if they could get some kind of gasket material or crush washers that would seal better and was told they’d send something out. This was maybe two or three weeks ago-still nothing. Decided I’ll just buy some crush washers instead of waiting on them, but wasn’t sure the correct size and the specs aren’t in the instructions. When they call me back with a size I’ll update this post. Figure we’ll just change the oil again when the washers are added. Small price of insurance for a very expensive component.

Was initially very impressed at how quickly they’d respond to any inquiries during the install, but now it’s starting to feel as if communication is less important to them.

I did this on mine on my initial install, and mine are bone dry...have been since day one
Nice man. I guess I figure a company selling a $21,000 product would include this if they thought it was necessary. Or at least suggest it when told about an issue.

Its called a trade secret, this is one of those plumbing/pipefitting/millwright level skills that engineers have no clue about.

I think there was a roll of teflon tape in one of my boxes, but I prefer the dope. Those plugs are supposed to be NPT, but NPT will usually leak oil unless reefed upon excessively. The vents are the same thread, and I doped them too...you cant tighten them "tight tight" cause they gotta be clocked upwards (or would look stupid if they aren't I guess)

Yeah tape was included in our delivery and was packaged with the breather lines. We used it on those connections after the vent elbow as it had crush washers. Nothing going into the box from the vent and no leaks there.

I have always used the liquid stuff. When I bought my Procharger they said " under NO circumstances are you to ever use the tape. It does not dissolve. It tends to leave small slivers of tape floating around that can get lodged in small orifices and lead to blockage". From that moment on I always use the liquid stuff. 😁

I'm just not coordinated enough anymore to use the tape...no matter what I do I turn it into dental floss!

Mrs Sierra Bronco was tricked into believing I had a modicum of intelligence after showing her why it’s important to wrap the tape counter clockwise. 😂

Another update-

74Weld got back to me today (and by that I mean I called them) and said tape is no problem to use. The crush washers had shown up so I figure might as well change the oil early since the tires will be off to throw the crush washers on the fill ports. About 1200 miles on this oil and the metal on the magnet seemed…hell if I know what’s good or bad for these things. Didn’t seem bad at all and the oil was still golden. Okay, cool. The crush washers somehow turned out to be the perfect size. ( Prime Ave 14mm Copper Oil Drain... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q3NHPNL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share for those interested)

But! Moving on to the next portal I notice a paint mark is missing on the brake caliper bracket. Sure enough, it’s loose. This is after applying red loctite and retorquing every assembly bolt to spec of 30 lb/ft. Mthrfckr. Pull the caliper and the middle bolt is gone completely, the other two were once again finger tight. Called 74Weld to leave a message and Chad answered, after hours. He called Quinn and they’re going to have a meeting to see what they can figure out. Seewwww…check your shit again if you have a set from the first batch of one-ton bronco portals.

Yup.
Both things happened to me as well.
I also asked for a replacement bolt two weeks ago and they said they'd send one right out and nothing.
I kind of feel like for the price these issues shouldn't be issues. Especially the caliper bolts. WTF?
