Yes... that is the gear reduction.... Nothing more. The reason those gears were chosen was because of the Jeep. He produced and offered those portals first. rather than reinventing the wheel (pun intended) he is sourcing the exact same gears he has offered on the jeep just had to redesign the housing. Remember the Jeep comes with 33s.... x 1.22 = 40

Truly. I mean no offense to 74Weld or Quinn or even you, whose put your money down. I still 100% believe in portals, however, given my obsessive interest in them, knowing their limits and the whos and whatfors is a big part of the experience. If 38's are a sweet spot and 40's or even 42's possible but problematic, let's discuss! That's all. I still assume it all works out better anyhow, because the technology makes sense.

I don't care about the Jeep. He's said 42" is possible on Bronco, based on the gear reduction. If he wants to back off that now, ok, like I said, I'm a reasonable person. We all get out over our skis sometimes. But if that's truth, I expect Quinn to acknowledge that, because I trust he trusts I can grok it. I'm not a Quinn apologist, I just want to know what's truly going on.

Yeah, 40's sound awesome but that's a lot of rubber. 38's would be great considering that's 20% bigger than any tire I've ran before (and my first truck in '95 was an F-250 jacked 6" back in the day). If reality is 38's are the best experience, I would think Quinn would say that and give a good explanation to say why. That's all. He's a good communicator, but consumer markets have a tendency to distort things.

It is fair that you would want that explanation if you are plunking down that kind of money... very fair request. I have just never seen Quinn ever suggest 42s. In fact I have never seen him suggest 40s... I have watched every single video I have been able to find an interview with him. That does not mean that I did not miss him saying that... I could have. I do know from the web site that it clearly states for the Bronco that it clears 37s to 39s.... That and the fact that the "show bronco was on 40s is what I went on when I ordered. When I talked with Quinn I mentioned my indecision between 38s and 40s and he simply said he thought I would be better off with the 38s because it just seemed to look more appropriate and fit the wheel well better than a 40. I assumed he was talking aesthetics at the time. Again... and assumption and I could be wrong. I really started questioning that when I went back and reread the web site where it clearly states 37s to 39s. If 39s clear with NO other work, how much would it take to clear 40s? That is the question I am asking myself now.

But again, the marketing had 38's. That's all I'm saying.

I have registered; this thread was started based on an email I got from them because I subscribed. I even sent a question in on the comment form, which I haven't heard back on. Not a problem, I assume they're busy. But I'm not, not in their system, at least somewhere.

And I want to stipulate again, to you and @Lcubed, I have by no means lost any faith. Maybe it's just late on a Sunday night... I did find the 38's an interesting choice, but I don't presume Quinn's going to talk to me just because. I'm a nobody whose just really interested in his tech. He may give me the time of day, he may not. If I can afford it, I'll still want it, because of course.

Whether your doing portals, bracket lift or body lift your going to have the same clearance issue. Your fighting the frame rails and front body mount or living with limited turning. Most rigs running 40s seem to be 4" suspension lift and 3" body lift which is substantially more than just portals.

Portals add offset so your going to be swinging wide! I would run 40s and start cutting, your going to be into the cab corners and bumpers.

Well I trust that 37s to 39s clear.... Not sure what I would need to do to clear 40s but looking at photos it sure does not seem like a lot would be required.

Very possible... so... possibly a 1 inch suspension and a 1 inch body????

I've stayed stock SAS waiting for portals.. Now waiting for warranty to expire, truck to be paid off (both 3 years), and then hopefully interest rates or zero percent offerings on portals are available.

I'm down with portals. Screw all that other stuff. Do it once, do it right, albeit do it more expensive.

Yeah, Quinn has a whole thing on SnailTrail 4x4 podcast about offsets and how positive offsets and neutral bearing of the wheel is best but not always preferred aesthetically. I think he suggests +25 w/portals, I personally like +35 but those are harder to find (to Quinn's point). I think the portals are total +6/7", which is approaching Raptor widths given OEM rim poke,

It is expensive... but his kit is fully inclusive, replaces the rear axles with a full float 35 spline, even includes the brake line extensions... every single thing you would need or want.

On SnailTrail 4x4 podcast, Quinn talks about how 74Weld portals starting in September 23 are going to be coverable in the Mopar warranty (or something to the effect, I might not have that 100% right). Mopar is doing all in, in other words, but maybe you have to get them installed by a Mopar service tech. Anyhow, that's a big step. And why I feel like they're the future.
