Hey, New to the group. Just picked up my Big Bend/Black Diamond SAS. I am looking for a skinny version of the 35s that came on it. Has anyone run 275/80/17s?? That is supposed to be 34.3" vs the 315 @ 34.4 but only 10.8 wide instead of 12.4 wide.
Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks

I love narrower tires on my OBX lower pressure and excellent ride. 8 just did the BL non SAS coilovers swap and looks great with skinnies.

I also don’t like wide tires. I just mounted 35x11.5 Toyo R/T Pro. I really like them. I’ll post some pics once I remove the 1.25”wheel spacers. Guy that mounted them for me defaulted to putting them on without testing for rub. I would prefer not to run them. But, my problem is the +55 offset steel wheels.

What's the issue with 55 offset? Rubbing? I love 55 tires are tucked in no road debris splatter on sides.....

My thoughts exactly. I’m hoping for zero rub.

I had Sasquatch take-offs + 285/75R17 Toyo AT3 and for some reason I’d rub the swaybar. But, I took a quick look at full lock with these 35x11.5 + ProComps (at ~2” lift) and I’m several inches away from rubbing anything with the 1.5” spacers. Gonna pull them and run a test this week.

Ideally full tread covered by flares with just the sidewall lugs poking.

The width cutoff on the +55 offset OEM wheels is around 11" to avoid rubbing. Chris might not experience the rub with his lift and 11.5" width. But the test of rub at full inflation driving on pavement isn't the test, but rather air down and articulating off road. Also, while tires are manufactured to a ratio, they often aren't true to the stated ratio.

I put 35x10.5s on my black diamond steels and have been pretty happy with them aside from the tires being heavy as hell

Correct. I figured a TINY bit of rub off-road isn’t the end of the world. But, we’ll see.

1.25” spacer is too much IMO. Anything less and the rear studs need to be replaced (or trimmed, which I’m not willing to do).

I nabbed a set of BORA this time around. So, I’m not worried about the strength and integrity of the spacer itself.

Are there any downsides going narrower? I wouldn't think so. It's usually the other way around, but with Sas you should be good with nearly all 35/12.5" tires. I wouldn't put bicycle tires on it, of course, but I can't think of any issues with narrower tires.

Depends on which YouTube expert you watch. Pizza Cutters seemed to be recommended for deeper snow, but I’ve recently read that wider is still better overall.

That said, I had the same model as OP. Don’t have budget for new tires but when I do, I’ll probably look at going narrower.

This has been brought up many of times on the skinny vs. wide debate. There is a YT video by the Tinkerer where he conducts a comparison using a scientific method of testing to arrive at the conclusion. The results would surprise most.

I'm sure you can find one of the other threads easily or someone will come along and share the YT video here. If no one else does, then I'll find it and share it here when I get back home.

Here is the more recent thread (been posted multiple times over the years here).

Update, Actually just found MT has Baja Boss AT at 255/85/17 @ 34.6" tall 10.8" wide, but says it is only approved for 8"wheel. I think stock SAS wheels are 8.5? Can anyone confirm?
