I have a 2022 2 Door 2.3L Manual and I noticed sitting in my bronco during warm up the other day that when the engine comes down off high idle during a cold start (1200-800 RPM) that the engine sounds/feels a bit rough. Im not sure if I've never noticed this before, or if something is starting to go wrong? It has 48k miles and I just installed new spark plugs, which looked great and the new plugs didnt make a difference.

Im wondering if this is just normal and ive never noticed and now im hyper sensitive, or if I have an issue starting?

No CEL, and runs great otherwise.

Probably normal. All ecoboost like to idle a little rough really. If it’s not setting any codes and otherwise drives fine, I wouldn’t worry about it.

I was thinking the same, however my wife has a 2022 4 door 2.3 auto trans with 78k and hers doesnt do it.....so I wasn't sure if the manual trans made the difference in roughness...

I don’t think it does. I’ve driven a lot of both and can’t say I’ve ever noticed a difference.

Similar vintage of 2.3 Mustangs had a weak Low Pressure Fuel Sensor located at the rear or engine easily accessible. I proactively replaced mine with updated one.

Did you use OE plugs?

AC cycling on?

Using premium quality fuel? This can make a huge difference.

Yes sir OE plugs. I run 87 but always use top tier. It does it AC on or off. Its weird because my wife's 4 door 2.3 with 75k doesnt do it.

It doesnt pick up a misfire on misfire monitor, but you can feel the roughness and see it dip around -1 on cylinder accel pids.

500 miles ago I did put new injectors in, high pressure pump, and an FRP because it was alot worse when injection pressure would drop from 2200 PSI to 700, it would actually log misfires. That issue is fixed but I still have a roughness when the RPM's come down off high idle and I dont know if im just hyper sensitive or if I still have something going on. Maybe KAM relearning?

It's had a catch can since new and the valves are clean. Very weird.

Rin the tank to empty and try some 91 or higher to see or dump some octane boost in. 87 is generally poor quality fuel VS 91 or 93 etc....

Do you have forscan?

I would try octane boost or new fuel first.

Well, figured it out. Cylinder 1 has a burnt intake valve. Cylinder head time! Anyone know if the ARP stud kit 151-4301 is compatible with the bronco? Its listed on ARP site for 2.3 Ecoboost but doesn't mention Bronco. They are the 2000 Series good to 220k tensile strength.
