It's not a major difference in top end HP...but it is a major difference in torque. Nearly 100 lb ft of it.
Hopefully someday, a performance tune will help that, plus I thought I read somewhere that for 2026 Ford had adjusted the torque to improve low end torque of the MPC 2.3L. I haven't seen a good comparison between the old 2.3L and new MPC 2.3L, I wish one existed.

Rubber belt vs chain. I know how timing "belts" work and after miles, the belts break. Yes, chains also stretch but seldom break.

You’re not wrong, but that’s really not a legitimate reason to go with one or the other.
Neither have problems.

It’s like saying should I get the small grill or the big grill…..

I would have gone with the 2.7 if it was available in the manual but here we are in a twisted turn of events.

Wet belt has been out for a decade. Many with very high mileage. If it was an issue, we would’ve seen it by now.

Never seen a single post or anything about one breaking.

Always the big grill. You can make a small fire in a big grill (or small fire in a big woodstove) but you can't make a large fire in a small grill (or woodstove).

I have the Weber 26" kettle as my main grill. I only grill on lump charcoal or hardwood. I was going to buy the 37" ranch king but they basically doubled the price. I'll have my friend custom fabricate me something instead.

Gooood call on that… those 26” ones are really nice.

I have a big Joe 2, a mini Joe and a breo fire pit with the cooking grate.

I like the Joe stuff a lot. I wish they made one as big as the BGE XXL (29"). I think I'm going to grab the XXL the next time they go on sale.

I wanted to test a barrel-style smoker out a few years ago so I bought an Oklahoma Joe Bronco Pro. I enjoy the barrel style but it's just a holdover until I get my Yoder in a couple of years.

Most replies to this are probably going to be: "Because I wanted the manual."
I wanted the manual until I test drove a 2.3 manual and then a 2.7 auto back to back. The low end torque on the 2.7 is much better. You need to keep the rpm's up in the 2.3 to make it get up and go.
But that's highway driving... off-road either is great and you probably won't know the difference due to the slow rock crawling speeds.
If I didn't have a manual in my car, I would have settled for less grunt so I could row gears.
I've noticed that the torque at the bottom of the "Normal" GOAT mode is too low and bogs the engine at launch. I too give it a goose, and it ups and goes just fine. The power is more than enough for this kind of vehicle... assuming you aren't trying to launch it into space or drag race a Hellcat.

For sporty driving, I have a sports car.

Ok. Well I must have misunderstood the wet belt issue.

Not only that, but the TQ profile....2.7 torque line looks like a table top, vs the ski slope on the 2.3.

The 1.0 and 1.5 are having failures.
The 1.0 ecoboost issues weren’t caused by belt failure though. The belts only failed due to a faulty tensioner design.

Haven’t seen any 1.5 failures yet, but either way, those are both quite a bit different from all other Ford wet belts. All other engines that use one, including the 2.7, don’t use a tensioner at all.

Legitimate question...why would anyone WANT a smaller, less powerful engine?
Well, normally the answer to that question would be that one might want the smaller, less powerful engine because it was less expensive and they didn’t need the extra performance gains from the bigger, more expensive option. But Bronco land has become bizzaro world where dealers sell Lux packaged 4 door Badlands Broncos with the 2.7L V6 for less than they do base or mid packaged 2 door Badlands with the 2.3L manual 4 banger.

A few years ago in my small town I could buy a decent house for $60k or less. Now the area Ford dealers want $50K-$60K for a manual tranny 4 banger that’s neither fast nor fuel efficient vs the V6 option.
