I think more likely is that government regulations force this "feature". Either through specific order to make ASS the default, or by CAFE fleet MPG standards. I would be willing to bet money that this is NOT a feature the majority of Ford owners actually want.
I did see the news item about...
I did. But the grinder was quicker than sifting through my bolt bucket :) To be honest, I consider it a temporary solution while I think about something more optimal, like I mentioned earlier in the thread.
By this reasoning we should all be forced into driving Smart cars. Yeah its hyperbole but the fuel savings would indeed be "significant." BTW I don't care what color your hair is. I just wish I had hair!
BTW it occurs to me that I'm doing more to save the planet than you are, by driving my...
Well I don't think it's a deal killer for any of us. I mean, we don't have the pitchforks and torches out over this. It would just be nice if we had the choice. I don't see what's so wrong with that.
I guess I must be a contrarian edgelord because I don't like the auto-start-stop LOL. If they would just make your last selection persistent (leave it on if you left it on, leave it off if you left it off, next time you start the car), we would all get along fine.
How tight is the tire to the carrier frame? I see a lot of daylight between the side lugs but I can't quite tell whether the tire is pulled against the frame enough to compress the rubber.
Also, your lower heim joint bolt is hanging on for dear life:
I realize you had to use the longer bolt...
I wasn't familiar with their design so I looked it up and had a peek at their install instructions. They use a single linkage but it looks like it uses bushings at either end instead of heims. The key though, is a single link rather than two, like I mentioned earlier. I'm not sure I like their...
I think the key to keeping things from bouncing and rattling is in making sure the tire carrier is pressed as firmly as possible into the rubber bumpers. While I haven't driven with it yet with my temporary single-turnbuckle hack (I'm now in the middle of the camera re-wire which is another...
I'm currently installing this bumper and having similar problems with the two turnbuckles. The problem is, if the axis of the tire carrier hinge and the tailgate hinges aren't exactly parallel, the turnbuckles are "out of phase" for lack of a better term. One wants to shorten while the other...
A few years ago at the very first United By Bronco in Hurricane, Utah, we had spent the first few days playing in the rocks and sand at Sand Hollow. For our last day we wanted to take it easy so we went on what was reputed to be a fairly short, easy (just a dirt road) run out to Toquerville...
Thanks! First one in 4 years that doesn't have a 6G on it but for this year it doubles as a tribute to one of our guys who passed away last year so it has his EB on it.
Early Bronco, Classic Bronco, Vintage Bronco, all are great! But "First Gen" is cringe! LOL We went through 5 generations of Broncos without that crap ever popping up:
Early Bronco
Big Bronco
OJ Bronco
OJ Bronco (still)
OJ Bronco (still)
Sixth Gen, WTF?
Also for anyone who can't laugh, this is...
The 24th annual Big Bear Bronco Bash, hosted by So Cal Broncos is coming up next month! Bronco owners of all generations are welcome to join us on the trails in and around Big Bear Lake, California, June 5-8. If you're not familiar with So Cal Broncos or BBBB, please note that it's more loosely...
WTF is a "first gen?" Don't you mean Early Bronco? Get it right! LOL
BTW nice score(s) and welcome from the land of the communists on the opposite coast :)
Nice! I started with a stripper 2-door also, back in '21. I will say it's not a money-saver in the long run to build them up yourself, but it's fun and you learn a lot.
