I got a call back from the shop yesterday…they left a message and I am going to go visit them on Monday to ask a few questions.
This is the voicemail text about they found inside my 10R60:
“The main failure we found is there's a couple clutches: There's E-clutch and then D-clutch, and that kind of burnt up in there, started basically giving out metal, metallic, and slowly started basically eating from it, basically, those 2 clutches failed, causing further damage down the road, but to be honest, there isn't that much damage. Ford is going to repair it (not replace). I've got all the parts I need ordered. Most of it's just small, one time nuts, bald seals and that sort of stuff, but kind of the main thing that we got to order those clutches and a new torque converter. But the parks are ordered.”
After all this I am a little disillusioned about the car, the repaired transmission and the longevity of this vehicle. Part of me wants to flip it and get a Toyota and never look back. Also I do want to know what does my 60k mile power train warranty look like after a repair like this….am I still covered? I also have the 100k mile ESP warranty….will this repaired transmission be covered under that? I’m thinking if it will at least be covered until 100k and the trans goes out after that hopefully by that time I’ll be ready to move on. I do love my Everglade and really have a lot of trips on my bucket list. Notably the Montana Backcountry Discovery Route….the full 998miles.
Alright, I gotta go to my 50th birthday party.
thank you for the emotional and technical support everyone. It’s almost like losing a dog….but maybe not that bad.
