The Bronco was the first one to use the phrase sports utility vehicle in ads, Jeep was the first to use "SUV", first with the SJ the with the XJ "unibody". So I don't think one a can say "SUV" had to be body on frame any more that an "SUV" had to have any 3 on the tree, or a shortened frame.
The Bronco is a Wagon.

IIRC, the term was invented in the 1980s by a writer for one of the 4WD magazines then in circulation. He was casting about for a term to describe the new downsized 4x4s from GM, Ford, and Jeep (S-10 Blazer, Bronco II, and Jeep Cherokee/Wagoneer). The term took off and became widely used.

I called my FBO Explorer ST the man-van, my bronco is "the bronco" because I found myself using car and truck interchangeably.

Depends on what you think it is when referring to it. My wife has a Subaru Crosstrek which is considered a "SUV" - a "Crossover SUV". But we call it her "car" or her "Subaru" - never her "SUV". But we always referred to my "Jeep" as my "Jeep" and my "Bronco" as my "Bronco" - never my "car". But with the 2.3 turbocharged, double overhead cam 6-speed manual in a 2-door, I think of it as my "sports car".

The other day I pulled up to the drive-thru at Culver’s for some ice cream in my Badlands with its doors off. My local Culver’s offers Jeep owners little ducks with the Culver’s logo as a promotion.
The young gal at the drive-through window seeing the doors off, offered me a duck, so I guess I’m drivin’ a Jeep.

I call it my Bronco, Badlands or BB.
My girlfriend calls it Bad Boy.
