Does anyone else who bought the Mountains2Metal Cargo Shelf deal with incessant rattles after installed? I've adjusted and readjusted and readjusted, but no matter what it won't stop.

I've hit the "if the kids don’t shut up, I'm just gonna walk home" stage.

@Mountains2Metal let me know if you have any feedback on this.

I didn't hear any rattles in your video.

I have the drop down attic shelf, it doesn't rattle. Here's what I did.

I slipped Harbor Freight Marine Grade shrink tubing over the latch pins. There's no need to shrink it.

The Mounts2Metal instructions tell you how to get rid of slack at the hinge pins. I did a little extra. I bought teflon washers from McMaster-Car to eliminate all slack at the hinge pins.

My old M2M cargo shelf rattled as well. I found it all came from the latch point as calvin pointed out. An alternative is to add weight to the shelf by having gear on it.

Even with some gear it makes a wicked amount of noise. Throw the truck on an offroad trail, and it sounds like loose change in a dryer. Pretty annoying!

Thanks for the latch pin and pivot pin solutions. I have the 2-dr M2M attic shelf and I noticed the slight rattle of the latch pins. But I also carry some weight in the shelf which does quiet the chatter. But that weight combined with all left turns in my daily has caused the shelf to shift on the pivot pins where I have to adjust the shelf back to center periodically.

I have to put in a claim on my rear MIC top so I have to strip down the accessories and will add your recommendations when I reinstall.

The heat shrink on the latch pins works great. 👍

But there must be a variance between the 2-dr and 4-dr versions. Your washer recommendation on the pivot pin doesn't fit for the 2-dr version - like not even close. While I had it apart, I had to improvise with what I had on hand. Ended up using some spare garden hose washers. Loose, but the purpose is to take up some of the lateral slack so that when the inevitable shift happens that the tray doesn't rub on the bracket.

I believe I have figured things out. Time will tell... The rattle was solved with nylon washers at the pivot and a combination of heat shrink and slightly thicker nylon washers at the release. I had a squeak that was driving me nuts that turned out to be at the release. I solved that by retightening the mechanism bolts and lightening the load in the shelf. I used to keep my recovery strap and shackles up there (40 lbs?) and now have only lighter things (extra clothing, ground cloths, etc) there.

One for each side, then get rid of slack by adjusting the hinge brackets.
