It looks like Ford is removing the universal garage door openers from a lot of its vehicles. Has anyone found a great after market option?

I've seen some articles referencing the fact that a lot of "smart" garage door openers exist that can be app-controlled. That's cool and all, but I don't want to have to open an app on my phone when arriving at my house all the time.

Install on your garage door opener (takes 10 min.)
Install the app.
Connect it to your opener.
Never have to touch the app again.
When you're within a few hundred yards of your house, a tile pops up on Carplay with the garage door status. Just press it to open.
Literally the least amount of headspace required to use.

I was skeptical but this thing is the real deal. No issues in the 6 months I've used it.

Well, I'm glad I asked! Ordered it. It'll be here tomorrow. Thank you so much for the recommendation!

Before the Bronco I just used the basic button that clips to the visor. Never had a problem with the cheap ones from Home Depot or Amazon.

It was not in my 2026. I was a bit upset about it because I have to traverse two gates to get home. One being an old school dipswitch style and the other being a modern "learn" button style. I would have much rather had built in one. I was able to find one on Amazon that could do both, but I took some research. I looked very similar to the visor clip style in the previous post.

That's what I use, with the clip removed. I keep it in that center flip-down thingy by the rear-view mirror. Then I just have to determine if I want to open door # I or door # III. Simple, easy, and relatively cheap.

Years gone by I have retrofit the HomeLink visors to a few cars. As long as 1) the illuminated mirror is present (to provide power) and 2) the visor is otherwise physically the same... I would think the same is doable here too. Despite working in tech, sometimes I find simple dedicated hardware solutions easier.

This would be my preference as well but we’re talking nearly $400 for the visor HomeLink vs $40 for Meross. After using the Meross I’ve found not only does it provide the same security as HomeLink (can’t break into the car and open the garage) but also gives me remote access to the door and automation. So even if I forget to close it, it will do so automatically once I’m a few hundred feet away. Not saying you’re ‘wrong’ just that there are addition benefits of the Meross.

This is what I did. Ordered a visor w/Homelink for a 2025 and retrofit into my 2026

I have not been able to use in car opener for ever simply because they don't work with commercial grade systems ...wont connect...so I just Velcro actuator to visor and functions the same.

Nice. That’s why this forum is great. Thanks!
