How do you think a 2 door base with the 2.3L, 10 speed and SAS package will do?
Is the 2.3 enough power?
I would throw a 10k winch and skid plates on it.
Mainly rocky trails in Colorado...............

I would look for disconnecting sway bar links, and yeah: add the 4WP under armor set. At some point a steel front bumper and sliders.

It's all in the gears, not necessarily the "power". Early broncos with the 105hp 6cy will crawl anything given the right gears, transmission and transfer case gearing.

So is the 2.3 and SAS gearing good enough?

I think you should be fine. Altitude may affect performance slightly but the turbo should combat that a little. The 2.3 is lighter and so is the 2-door, should be okay even with the additional weight of sas. Your main limiting factor with 2-door is going to be severe angles while rock crawling, as I am sure you are aware.

Should be fine for most trails. A lot of people tend to overestimate vehicle requirements, I remember making it through Independence trail (very hard) in CO in my uncles 4 banger Jeep YJ. He had 5.13's if I remember right

They 2.3 has plenty of power. I’ve wheeled all the hardest trails in Colorado for years with less than 100hp. I think the ifs and whether your willing to beat up the body of your new 50k bronco will be the limiting factors! Some lower tcase gearing would be beneficial if the aftermarket gets to that eventually as well.

That's my dilemna. Do I get a nice Bronco- OBX or Badlands and run it down the road and trails. and get it scratched and beat up- Or get the cheaper Base and make it a rock crawler and to/from the trails and not care as much if it gets beat up... Right now we have a Polaris General that we use but would sell it... It only has 28" tires but has been all over CO...
We are just tired of hauling it to the trails. Would be so much nicer to drive to the trailhead, drive the trail and then drive home. Also would be great for running down all of the dirt roads here.
There is also the option of at least removing the fender flared and maybe even the fenders before rock crawling..

Then I would probably sell the General, XP Turbo and F150. Then have two Broncos- one for rocks and one for malls..
