I've never owned a vehicle that has a matched spare tire. What is best practice? Just leave it as a spare, rotate it through when rotating tires?

Edit: is TPMS an issue? Probably not know yet since no one has one yet.

Rotate it through. Owners manual will show you how.

Down side is you have to replace 5 at a time.

Up side is you get a tiny bit more out of them, and you don’t have one rotting away as your spare for a while.

Some rotate 'em all, some don't. Yes, you get a little more life out of rotating 5, however if you pay to have your tires rotated, they usually charge you extra to rotate the 5th. So the savings you have in getting more life out of your tires is minimized by paying more for rotations.

I would just buy 3 tires that match, replace them and take the tire that is left over that has the most tread and replace the spare with it.

The mega-rotation mentioned seems like a better idea, though.

I thought you couldn't move radials side to side.
Funny, I thought the same for years..... Just googled 5 tire rotation.... received literally 1000's of images.

Depends on if they are unidirectional or multidirectional.

If they are uni-, then the spare tire would only work on one side of the vehicle.

TPMS is not an issue. Just rotate all tires. Don’t really know what issue there may be that your thinking of?

Maybe not knowing which tire has what pressure? Like getting a Front Right low pressure message, but you actually rotated that tire to the Rear Left. How would the system know you put the spare on?

Some tires are directional because of their tread pattern. Some cars have different size tires front and rear. Usually both of those things are found on more sport related vehicles, and result in strict limitations to where you can put them based on how they’re mounted on the wheels.

On the bronco, with A/T or M/T tires, you’ll be able to swap these around all you want.
