Some other thoughts about the 2.7-if Ford offers a hybrid 2.3L, that would roughly make the same amount of power as the 2.7L V6, so that would be another reason for it be dropped from the Bronco.

Hybrids get their MPG by using an engine tuned for steady RMP output. Specifically a modified Atkinson cycle engine.

Atkinson cycles engine are miserable to drive, but great for mpg.

Offering a diesel engine might be interesting.

The Ranger truck uses the same engine as the Bronco (2.3L), that truck in the UK is available with a 3.0L V6 Diesel with 310-330hp and 530 torque, and around 25mpg

US diesels are a hard sell unless you do a lot of towing.

Diesel fuel is expensive due to the EPA ultra low sulfur mandate. And also expensive to maintain due to all the extra emissions garbage. Note that when the US Gov buys diesels they exempt themselves from emissions.

The Ford Powerboost system doesn't use that..the hybrid 10R adds about 100HP from the electric motor

Could go one of two ways:

1. They're dropping 2.7L completely.
2. They're dropping the 2.7L just from the F-150 because of the Silverado, along with Ranger/Bronco demand.

I'm guessing it's the latter, probably largely in response to the new generation Silverado in 2027. They have a new 5.7L V8 replacing the old 5.3L V8, and the 3.0L would be positioned nicely against it.

Only reason why I'm not 100% confident is because of the 3.0L on the Filson trim. But we'll see. If I'm right... maybe we'll see the 2.7L on lower trims again?

The rumor going around about that is the new Ranger Super Duty will become the F-100 and be built in the Tennessee truck plant as its replacement.

Yup, I never intend to put anything other than 87 in. I thought of trying it for one tank, but I might like it...

Bought mine 3 weeks ago and on my 3rd tank of gas. Tempted to try 92, but trying to resist. Seems great on 87.

So an insider on another board that normally has some good info:

The reason for the change was that the 2.7 wasn’t going to clear some emission compliance requirement of some sort. They’ve been working on this change since 2023.

There is a new 6 in development but that is all I can say.

I just found out today that the loaner I've been in for 1200 miles has the 2.7L V6 - wow, what a waste of money! Having the distinct disprivilege to drive both the 2.3L MPC and 2.7L back to back with automatics and 4 doors, I have to say anyone who ponied up for the latter got scammed. The 10% power difference just doesn't show on the road at all without $3300 worth of placebo effect. These poor souls are chained forever to a wet belt and a less-than-stellar automatic transmission, and they have absolutely nothing to show for it.
