Future of the 2.7L?

I remember the same thought process & discussion when we discovered in 2020 that the new 6g Bronco was getting the 10R60 transmission from the Ranger, instead of the 10R80 transmission from the F150. It would seem like a continuation of that design choice to keep the 2.7 and 10R60 in the Bronco, and the 3.0 and 10R80 in the F150 pickup. After all, if they put the 3.0 in the Bronco, wouldn't they have to upgrade to the 10R80 transmission? After all, that's the package in the Raptor.

Offering a diesel engine might be interesting.

The Ranger truck uses the same engine as the Bronco (2.3L), that truck in the UK is available with a 3.0L V6 Diesel with 310-330hp and 530 torque, and around 25mpg

2.7 will slowly be phased out. New, redesigned, dual injection, 3.0 with single turbo will replace it.

As far as I know, a lot of official doc has typos like that.
3.0 (2016) is based on the first gen 2.7 (2015) without dual injection, the second gen 2.7 (2018 I think) received the dual injection upgrade while the 3.0 is still based on first gen 2.7 architecture

Understood, but it's also interesting that the oil/air separator from Ford Racing isn't available for 2026 3.0 Raptor - I know it could be due to emission/California

It more has to do with the marketing war, the 3.0 Huricane in the Ram and 2.7 turbo 4 banger in the Chevy. It comes down to not having the smallest standard engine. I really don't think it has anything to do with actual performance or supply issues.

I imagine some of the trims on the Explorer that currently have the 3.0L will get the 2.7L instead (Tremor, for example).

I had the 2.7 in my 2018 F150 and enjoyed it in that truck. When trying to decide between a Jeep and the Bronco, when I found out the Bronco had the 2.7, that was the biggest factor that swayed me towards the Bronco. The 3.6 in the Jeep really only competes with the 2.3.

The 3.0 doesn’t have both port and direct injection. Ford needs to address that.

The 2.7 is arguably the best ECO boost. Weird Ford would drop it.

I really liked my 2.7 in my Heritage Limited. Acceleration etc were pretty close to 3.0 Raptor

Same story with me. I was so impressed with the 2.7 Eco on my 2016 F150, I was happy to have it (an updated version of it, I'm told) in my 2021 Bronco.

With premium fuel prices being what they are right now, I wouldn’t want a 3.0 in mine. The 2.7 is quick enough for me.

Neither the 2.7 nor the 3.0 require premium.

Dad has the 3.0 in his stupid Exploder. It's.... zippy.
