Some time ago I was putting my top back on the Bronco late in the evening when the sun was just right and I noticed small cracks in the MIC hard Top under the driver rear window. then I looked at the very top and found a few more tiny cracks up there. took it to Ford and since I was at 40K miles they told me to go kick rocks, then I said I have the extended warranty and they said I glad for you, now go pound sand. Ok not really a problem for me that is not why I bought a bronco in the first place worst case I just stick a Bestop or Armadillo on there and move on. Now the top has a few more cracks so I decided I would just shoot some Raptor Liner (actually got Custom Coat) on the top to seal it up and hopefully prevent more cracking.

I washed the top with dawn , cleaned and dried it really well then taped off the weather stripping and windows rubbed it down with Acetone then wiped it down with rubbing alcohol. then shot 2.75 cans (about 3 coats) of custom coat on the top. same stuff I used on my square drop build. the higher your PSI the finer the texture, I was having issues with my compressor or gun so I have a little heavier texture than I really wanted but I can live with it. all in took about 4 hours then let it sit in the garage to bake for a week. but you could install it after a few hours the stuff dries pretty fast. I know there are others that have done this but used white I opted for the standard issue black but it can be tinted any color you like if you wanna go that route.

Looking real good!!

Would it be possible to post a couple of after pics of the areas that were cracked?

Please report back after time goes by regarding how the Custom Coat has held up to fading and whether or not any of the cracks have telegraphed through the finish.

I proactively addressed any possible issues with the MIC top on my 23 Wildtrak by having the vehicle totaled in a wreck and replacing it with a 24 Heritage Limited with white painted top.

The wreck also took care of a dead TPMS, leaking lift glass and the bad evap purge valve that was throwing a code.

As big a pain as the wreck was it was still probably less hassle then trying to deal with Ford.

Awesome work - looks great!

Like @carrellslake I plan to have local shop spray bedliner (if/when mine cracks). Also having them shoot pinch weld areas to seal this off from road crud/chips. :D

I used the custom coat on my square drop trailer fenders and frame and has held up fine for the past couple of years.
I will check to see the the cracks how through the coating but this stuff is pretty hard I think the top could crumble away and you would still have a shell of the coating left.
But we will see.

Thanks,
The Dobbies are great, they did well in Baja and we are taking it to Colorado next week. Thanks for asking.

Looks quite good, nicely done. Two quick questions for you:

1. Did you do the front panels as well?
2. Do you know if this sort of customization would impact an eventual recall on the roof? I know there have been recalled '21 roofs, and I'm wondering if Ford can weasel out of replacing the roof if its been customized like this.

Thanks!

Yes I did do the whole top for consitancy.
I am sure Ford would refuse a recall claim on this roof. With all of the horror stories of peoples replacement roofs being worse than their original I felt it was better to deal with the devil I know than the devil I don't. Ford had already denied a warranty claim on the top and I didn't want it to deteriorate any more. Again for me the top is only a minor issue.

Since the coating masks the fact there are cracks, I don't see any way to get a replacement top under the recall. Which iirc is only replacing tops with visible cracking.

Looks great. All these tops WILL crack at some point.
100% agreed. My 2024 has small cracks around the rear windows – I don't believe for a second that Ford/Webasto made any effective changes to the design and manufacturing process to resolve this issue.
