With the heat returning this summer, I'm running the AC a lot more.

I noticed when I switched the recirculate button on and off that I did not hear a difference in the air-flow sound. Typically, when one turns on recirculate, the air-flow noise gets a lot louder. So, I went further and removed the glove box to be able to see the recirculate door in action. Sure enough, it was open and didn't close when recirculate was turned off. Before anyone asks, yes, the car was running and I had the AC turned down low.

So, when I recently took my car into my Ford dealer for an oil change, I asked them to check it out. They told me everything was working as it should. I tested the system in the parking lot as I was leaving the dealer and sure enough, it was working correctly.

I have come to find that that the proper recirculation door operation is intermittent. So, I cannot fault the dealer, as it appears that it was operating correctly at that time.

Anyone else notice this phenomenon?

Not sure with your MY and config, but my '25 Lux has to be off of auto mode in order for re-circ/external true manual operation out of the button.

The air inlet door will very often stay open regardless of what the button is commanding due to a strategy built into the system in order to get fresh air into the cabin. Not sure if this is what you were experiencing at the time, but it’s normal.

The time interval they have listed doesn’t really match what mine seems to do. I can tell it opens usually around 45 minutes into a drive, then it never really seems to close after that 🤷‍♂️

This occurs on my '23 Lux when auto mode is off.

Not sure where you got that info from.
My owner's manual says:
"Press the button to recirculate air currently in the passenger compartment.
Note: Recirculated air may turn off automatically or prevent you from switching on in all air flow modes except MAX A/C to reduce the risk of fogging. Recirculation may also turn on and off automatically in various air distribution control combinations to improve heating or cooling efficiency."
Ford's description (above) in my manual is very confounding. That said, when my recirculating door is open, it stays open forever and I am unable to close it at any time under any circumstances.

What I posted is out of Ford’s workshop/service manual.

I’ve noticed the HVAC does whatever it wants tbh, regardless of what i’ve set it at. On my prior base model it never listened. On my 2dr big bend with auto i leave it on auto because i hate fighting it.
