Got my top and doors off, after getting a lift and door cart from EZ4X4, and noticed that, when my door are off, the brake peddle is squishy at startup. It firms up as soon as the engine starts and when I put the doors back on.
Anyone else noticing this? Is there’s something from Ford on it?

Your profile indicates that you have a MY'21 Bronco. What engine - 2.3L or 2.7L? The older 2.3L has vacuum-assist brakes. The brake pedal on those models will be "soft" until pressure builds.

As to the cause/effect mentioned in the thread title, the door seals help maintain the vehicle's vacuum pressure. With the doors off, all that vacuum is lost.

It doesn't happen if you park with the windows down or when the top is removed because the truck's computer doesn't monitor the state of the windows or top.

It's like gravity in cartoons -- it only takes effect when someone notices.

I made no mention of the OP's attribution. I just tried to offer an explanation if they had the older 2.3L.

I was hoping my post was silly enough to be obvious satire. 🙃

Your answer is THE answer and the doors-off thing is 100% unrelated to the brake pedal.

I was picking up on the satire. The doors-off causation is 100% unrelated.

OP hasn't responded back. But we have been here long enough to know about complaints regarding the "soft/squishy" brake pedal on the MY'21-MY'24 2.3L and the vacuum assist brakes. Many people have never drove a vehicle with such a system and expect the behavior of EBB systems.

My '21 2.3L on 37s has great brakes, but I learned to drive 60's and 70's vehicles with no power brakes and probably only one of the 4 drums making contact, so I know bad brakes.

Thanks for the info, it matches what I found when I researched the issue; however I have the 2.7 with electric brake boost, which is why I’m confused.

Well that adds a new wrinkle to the question. Unfortunately, as with my initial post in this thread, I have nothing beneficial to add.
