Not even 2 months after my 3/36k warranty expired (still under 36k too) I’ve noticed the honeycombing. I have a hairline crack too. Garages and never taken the rear off. I did get the extended warranty through granger but I read the tops aren’t covered. Curious what my options are. I believe the other side is starting to as well.

Ford just issued a safety recall on 5/15/2026 for the delamination or cracking on the exterior skin. Right now it is for the 2021-2022 w/build date of 9/23/2020 thru 01/13/2022. If you can wait it out they will probably expand this as other years are having the same issue. I see yours is a 2023, perhaps the wait won't be too long. The downside is you will be getting another MIC top.

Will this recall cover tops after the 3/36 ?

This is big news. So if a top gets replaced under recall and that new top then cracks, does it get replaced again because of the recall?

Here is more information on the 2021-2022 Safety Recall.

It will just be a matter of time before every model year is included because now Ford has realized the liability they will be facing where pieces of our MIC tops are flying through the air and slicing apart anything they come into contact with.

Think about all of the members who end up cutting themselves while taking the parts of the top off because of razor sharp surfaces on some of the edges. Now think of those razor sharp edges flying at you like a projectile at highway speeds while you happen to be following a Bronco with one of these failing MIC tops.

No. It’s not lifetime coverage.
Also, there is no information on what the recall repair is yet.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on that. It’s pretty likely they would’ve already included other model years if that was going to happen. But we’ll see.

Ford is being dragged kicking and screaming into even looking at the 2021-2022 model years but if they are dangerous to public safety then a case can definitely be made that the rest of the model years are also safety risks.

I don't think they will have a choice.

I also think they're going to have to stop putting these damned MIC hardtops on the new Broncos coming out of the factory as well.

lol there’s absolutely no information suggesting this. Unless you have some inside information, there’s no way to know if they were forced to do this, or if they simply saw an issue with these specific build date tops and preemptively issued a recall.

I don’t see why they wouldn’t have a choice. Considering how few have been actually seen delaminated/cracked enough to even cause a road hazard, I find it hard to see any reason to expect further build date coverage unless they see a safety issue on others in the future. Otherwise, like I mentioned, they probably would’ve already.

Everything is speculation at this point. Things I’ll look at are the hardtop “kits” on the Ford accessories site have not been available for quite some time. I was supposed to have mine replaced through Ford with one in February and the last update was supplier issues and available in May. My guess is they stopped sales until whatever this is get figured out.

Since the build dates include 2.0 builds it’s fair to consider this might get expanded, unless they identify something specific in the manufacturing process during this time period. Still I would think it will expand.

I also speculate that they are going to start with a much smaller sampling first to perhaps see how this goes before just adding in all years, however given it’s a safety recall, that’s probably unlikely. I just don’t see how they cannot recognize the problems with new tops so it will be interesting to see the remedy and the full bulletin on it.
