What's the current TSB for the m/t issues? I'm taking mine in soon for MIC replacement, might as well have them figure out the m/t while it's there. It's have the 'rock rattle" when it's cold.

Good morning! If you send over a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info, I can look into your noise concern on my end.
This post is for anyone looking for a follow up.
I have a 2022 Badlands MT. I had the scraping noise almost immediately in 2022. It became a known problem so Ford issued a service bulletin. My truck had the transmission synchro gear operation done summer 2024. It is my understanding that the second attempt was the charm. It took several weeks before I received the vehicle back due to awaiting parts and tooling. The vehicle is 3,000 miles out of that service, with 13,000 miles total, and it dropped out of 6th gear on the interstate last week. Ford Roadside towed it 40 miles to my dealership and they are currently backed up but looking for a solution. This is not my primary vehicle, hence the low mileage, so not a terribly big deal. If it were my primary, it would be gone soon if not already. My dealership and Ford customer service have been great. The quality of the components being sold is questionable. Even with a brand new transmission, my confidence in the powerplant has degraded. I hope to have a working vehicle back before Christmas. It’s a cool truck, they just have to get this stuff worked out.

Sounds like a repair issue, not a parts issue.

I was planning on buying one today. I had never heard of this issue before. A '23 Black Diamond with 40k miles.

I got in and heard it right away. A grinding noise in 1st and 2nd, clutch in or out, goes away in any other gear. I drove around in a school parking lot for 10 minutes, trying to figure it out. I was a mechanic and dealer parts guy for years so I have experience troubleshooting noises, and dealing with warranty claims.

I like the truck. I want the truck. My questions for you guys, without having to read 294 pages are these.

How many have been denied repairs by Ford? Is it like pulling teeth or do they know about it and are quick to file the warranty claim?
How long is the wait time for parts and repairs?
Does the repair actually fix the noise?
How many transmission failures because of this issue?

It’s a common issue with a TSB and directed repair. There should be no issue getting it resolved if it has the issue.
In most cases the TSB fixes the problem, more so now because the parts have been updated a few times.
It won’t harm the transmission at all, it’s just a noise.

Thanks for the quick reply. The noise on this one was pretty clear in 1st and 2nd, even warm, so I’m sure Ford will hear it. Good to know the updated parts are doing their job and that the repair works. I’m planning to pick it up, drive to Ford, and let them sort it under the TSB.

Appreciate your help.

Do you know if the new 2025 models are still having the issue and what the newest transmission revision is? I'm curious if the newest revision of the transmission has fixed the problem. A while back, I seem to remember the transmission revision lagging behind the parts used in the TSB.

As far as I know, 25MY isn’t affected. All the repairs out now seem to completely fix the issue.

Thanks for the info! Maybe I will go take it in now. Been dealing with it for a while since it's already been replaced once.

I had a very, very late build '24 (built in November) and it has this issue. Basically the last round of 24s before they retooled for 25s, so it's likely that MY25 still have them unless they were using up old MT88 stock that late and switched over.

Might be likely since I think there was some delay getting the manuals out.

I dropped mine off at Ford on December 1. Just got the call today (Jan 2) that it was ready. It was a pain in the ass.

It sat for the 1st week. I called on the Friday and asked the status. The service writer said they are just pulling it in now.

The next week I got a text saying the tech had confirmed it and they are doing the paperwork.

The next week he told me manual transmissions are hard and it will be ready next week.

Then he told me it was done but they were waiting for someone to drive it. Huh?

The 4th week He said it was done and they want to do the block heater recall since it was there. I asked if they had the parts and he said they do, it will be ready tomorrow. The next day I get the call, oops, sorry, wrong parts. I told him to overnight the correct ones and he went on about New Years and days off and blah blah. I used my Dad's voice, letting him know I was not pleased.

So I picked it up today and guess what? Much to my surprise, no noise! From the tranny. The heater core is bubbling and gurgling so I am going to have to bleed that a couple of times but overall, it was a horrible experience and I am glad it is over.

The block heater recall? W701548-S437- a $2.37 threaded plug.
