Hi All
looking to upgrade from plastic to steel...
I see ford sells the complete kit which seems like a decent value.
Any other changes/programming needed or is it a simple remove and install?
I have a base, no sensors, no fogs.
thanks!

I do not know the correct answer, but logically speaking, there shouldn't be a need to program anything if you have no electronics on the bumper.

There is a FDRS procedure to update the airbag when you change the bumper

Given that none of the aftermarket bumpers do this not sure its really critical - but it does exist

The swap takes 3 minutes if you've done it before, 10 minutes if you haven't (6 bolts). Same for the Capable bumper, which sometimes can be had for around $100.

*Edit, that's swapping in an already assembled bumper, the kit comes in pieces.

Also if buying that kit through Ford Accessories, I'd wait to see if they have a 25% Black Friday code (they always have 15% off, sometimes 20). If you get a bumper off marketplace, you have to trim your plastic skid plate (that kit comes with the metal bash plate).

AFAIK you need to cut the original tow hooks off, but other than that it's an easy install. I am also planning on seeing if the newly release modular bumper with sensors goes on sale for Black Friday.

I forgot all about the tow hooks, the Sawzall took care of them in a minute or 2.

I've been waiting for that kit to become in stock and it finally did so I'm going to pull the trigger @ 15% off.

Looks like a fog light or sensor connector?

It might be saying to remove the crash bars? I think that's what that looks like, but they would only be present if you don't have a sasquatch.

No idea honestly. It’s pointing near the crash bar - I don’t recall a wiring harness or anything that goes there. You don’t have to remove the crash bar for the bumper. Maybe something with a fender liner bumper clip or something.

nothing critical at any rate … it’s a whopping 6 bolts that matter - everything else is non-critical.

If you buy the Ford kit it comes with new mounts, you just swap them out with the originals.

Also, if you sign up with Rakuten, on Black Friday they usually have a 12% or 15% rebate with Ford Accessories. That's how I got mine last year

I have a modular bumper, still in the box that I'm selling if interested. I'm in Maryland.

likley the fog light connector. When I put my aftermarket bumper on, for the recovery hooks, I removed mine and took a cut off wheel to remove them, shot of paint, and reinstalled. I also helped my buddy go from base bumper to mod using the ford kit. It's quite easy. you'll spend more time reading the instructions on how to assembly the mod bumper than anything else.

You'll also laugh at how light the base bumper is.
