Really? For the 2Door?
I’m not sure they were just talking about the bronco in general so who knows. That dollhouse trip is on my list of places to go how short of fuel do you think you were?

Yeah, I’d wager LRA is considering a tank for the 4D at best, the 2D is a stretch and the economy of scale is small.

We debated and all agreed that it was feasible that I had enough fuel to get out to the Doll House and back. However, given the remote exposure and accounting for the unknown, mechanicals etc, we decided to be conservative and leave the Ford behind. We also had four different family schedules and promises to our spouses about what day we would be back. It was a big trip. If we would have skipped the Panorama point night I would have been fine.

Again still dreaming but maybe a custom receiver would be needed or beneficial to help with the leverage and torsional load.

But that would negate the swing out so this is crazy talk.

Aren't they identical from the axle back? I don't know what the tie-in looks like, but it seems like a small part of the kit, if it had to be modified at all.

Great question, I don’t know. All I know is the 2Door. I will say this, the OEM muffler is gigantic.

That's a lot of weight to be hanging that far back from bumper.

Especially with all the other gear you will be carrying in the back of Bronco

Perhaps you should consider a small off road trailer.

Yup! I have the Turn HD tailgate reinforcement. I’ve considered this type of tray mounted above the tire. However 15 gallons is bloody heavy. Plus my 37’s. I should also say that I need to retain the ability to carry a spare/wheel mounted trash bag. Gotta pack out the wag bags.

Remember the Pintos, gas at the rear and low, is a dangerous combination. Whatever you do, mount it high and protected. It is not just the other guy you need to protect.

Yup. I hear ya. I had twin Jerry’s on my old truck and get rear ended. Luckily my truck was tall and the car that hit me was low. It didn’t end well for the other car. (No gas was spilled)

Thanks for the suggestion! Dragging a trailer through tea pot canyon would be spicy. Thanks!

In a word, no.

I've got professionally built double swings on two built rigs. The Wagon can carry two Jerry's, the LX three. Both have been to Doll House, (the LX twice, and she's a thirsty piggy, 15 extra gallons on those trips).

Problem is, you get that much weight, cantilevered off the back in order to clear your rear tire. The donkey kick it will give will be significant, and you'll have to triangulate back to the ends of the bumper for rotational forces.

I haven't looked as I don't plan on using my Bronco that way off-road, but does no one make a legit swing bumper that holds the spare and cans? It is the only way to do it right other than a sub tank. And good luck on that with the seemingly low demand for 2 doors.

Keep things off the roof unless you have to. Lower CG is your friend, especially with the limited articulation of IFS.

Thanks for your feedback. I hear ya on the leverage involved.

Yes, there are several rear bumpers out there that can carry twin jerry cans. None that can handle three without additional mods. Plus to be honest none of them have struck me as “oh that’s the one for me”.

That said the Bronco’s body is so narrow that the space between the tail lights is limited. So a triple Jerry would be too wide with a 37. Maybe even too wide with a 35.

Plus I don’t want the weight of a full steel bumper full time. The angles on the 2D are so good I’ve yet to hit my rear bumper on anything more than just a wee love tap. It’s not like my old days where a high clearance rear bumper would dramatically change a Tacoma’s offroad angles. So the investment versus benefit is lacking.

I may just pretend like it’s 1970 and toss some fuel cans in the back for the dirt sections only 😎
