Huh could have sworn I posted here at least once before. The first time it was making the grinding noise many people have. It was a bad synchro #5 which they replaced. Several months later the grinding came back. Went to the dealer and they replaced synchros 5 and 6. Fast forward to last week the grinding noise is back again along with a metallic humming noise which sounds almost like a turbine engine. I crawled under it today and the housing is covered in red transmission fluid. I’m calling the service center tomorrow. Nice

The manual transmission doesn't use red ATF, it is filled with ford DCT fluid from the factory. The only thing on a manual bronco filled with ATF would be the transfer case, which sounds like the issue if you see fluid all over the transmission case and heard the noise you described.

Not knocking the dealership, but I've seen issues with getting a tire balanced correctly before. Told they were, confirmed with the same equipment a few hours later at a different shop they were not. So.... maybe someone is thinking transmission fluid all tastes like hotel chicken? Unless you're driving in reverse everywhere you go, I also don't see how the transfer case fluid (which I agree is red) would be all over the transmission housing?

yeah, that would not be good! But would also mean the dealership should be ordering the new transmission for him ASAP. At this point, I would have it confirmed by a different shop just what kind of fluid he's got in the transmission here before taking back to the same dealership that did the repair. If it's truly cherry red, then I have no doubt he may have found the reason why it keeps failing....and you win the internet for pointing it out!!

at a minimum be taking pictures. If it were me, I would have someone video tape me pulling a sample of the fluid, watching me tape the lid the sample was contained in, and have it analyzed.

Gotta be honest, I'm wondering if the new Escape I bought the wife in March was a good choice after her 15 years in two consecutive VWs that were 100% recall and repair free....

My 2025 VW Atlas Cross sport has a current recall for engine fire. Seems we used a flammable engine cover.

VWs seem to get a ton of flak on the boards, but our two Tiguans (2010 and 2017) were flawless. Most trouble free rigs of any I've bought new (and there have been many). The only imports I've owned. Wanted to get the wife a GTI, but AWD is necessary since we live in the sticks; the Tiguan is too big now, and the Taos wasn't as punchy as the Tigs were.

I have to assume that because it's nearing the end of its product life cycle that the new Escape will be solid, hope I don't jinx it. My '19 F150 has been anything but solid, four repairs within the first 30K miles.

It very well could have been amber. I wiped some off with my finger and took a quick glance at it. I guess in my mind i was expecting it to be red. it was mixed with road grease and it had some color to it so maybe I just assumed it was red. It was coming from the back side of the transmission near the transfer case so who knows

I've never owned a Honda or Toyota, but our VWs were very well built. Near perfect panel alignment too. The earlier Tiguans were German built too as I recall, which may be part of it.
