If you don't mind me asking what did it cost you all in?

Alright, here’s my ride report after putting about 1,500 miles on the 8112s, with 150 of those off-road

On-Road Comfort & Performance:
The ride feels similar to the stock SAS but with significantly better handling in corners and much less nose dive under hard braking. Also, small bump sensitivity was improved but its still there, you can feel the road but more plush. There’s a noticeable improvement in control and stability.

Off-Road Performance:
These shocks have some real wizardry built into them. The “position sensitive dampening” isn’t just a gimmick you can actually feel the increased damping and control as you get deeper into the travel. It feels bottomless, even on hard-hit G-outs

I tweaked the high-speed and low-speed compression up a few clicks for desert running and adjusted the internal jounce cutoff up one click. That made cruising by at 55-65 mph through medium whoops feel like easy work.

The biggest improvement was the washboard and smaller bumps, its actually very enjoyable now the truck doesn't feel like it will rattle apart or beat you up off road. there is no shock fade. After an hour of duning and getting after it I went out and put a hand on the shocks, they were bairly warm.

Just incase you missed it I ran into the Bilstein guys in Johnson Valley and we did a little video shoot with these bad boys. If you have any questions DM me. I've gotten more seat time with the 8112 DSA+ and WOW, what they do to uplevel the platform is truly insane.

I got the 8112 installed along with the APG upper control arms.
Plus, the Johnny Joint lower links (APG said I wouldn't need the uppers), 74 Weld steering rack and the Next Venture rear diff cover and skid plate for the rear diff (I have the aluminum full skids on order).

I have them on for about a month and have the high-speed compression fully backed off for the street. The ride is quite a bit better than the stock Fox shocks. They react so much quicker and are able to stop the entire rig from bouncing over bumps. Handling is no different and dive under hard braking is improved.
I do not have any off-roading done yet. April is crazy busy with spring-break, horse shows and birthdays. Will be getting out there soon fingers crossed.

Overall, super happy with the setup. Did a 1" lift over stock ride height. Once I get the skids installed, I'll be good-to-go.

Just a heads up:

Bilstein is having a price increase TOMORROW JULY 1

If you have been thinking about these, this is the LAST CHANCE to get them at their current price. All orders will need to be submitted TODAY to secure current pricing.

These kits will be $400 more starting tomorrow.

I can still give a discount on them, so shoot me a message!

I have little doubt these are as good as it gets, at least for what I want out of the Bronco suspension on/off road. Thing is they are priced out of my budget for now.

Question: Have you had anyone do an install keeping the stock SAS springs, at least for the front (maybe you can not with rear)?

I'm not sure why you'd want to use the stock SAS springs. The shock valving has been designed around the spring rates that are used by Bilstein. I wouldn't mess with anything else.

Good point.

On the other hand, many (most?) aftermarket shock/coil over manufactures appear to have a 'one size fits all' when it comes to spring rates - or at least a target Bronco and/or use case in mind. I am not sure how many different spring rates Ford has for the various flavors (doors, trim levels - and thus wieght) of Bronco's. I recall reading somewhere here that there are more than half a dozen different spring rates from the factory just for SASed Bronco's.

This begs the question, which Bronco (i.e. what weight) were the 8112's springs designed around? OR is there a selection of multiple spring rates available?

I suspect the answer is something like "your standard 4 door Badlands or Wildtrack" which would work for me, but I would want to know.

The spring rates were designed around a 4 door badlands and 2 door badlands. The adjustability for the DSA "Dual Speed Adjustment" and hydrolic bumpstop allows you to dial them in for more or less weight, depending if you have a more desert runner build or an overland build with winch etc...

Sort of...obviously adjusting damping can help, within an certain range, but it is springs and not dampers that fundamentally support the weight of the vehicle and the basic behavior of the suspension with said weight. Beyond wieght, spring rates also effect basic suspension behavior (e.g. compliant vs. less roll, etc.) I would say that in general folks focus too much on shocks and not enough on springs when thinking about modding for this or that attribute.

@87-Z28 has several threads around here I am too lazy to link that explicate all this.

In any case, it would seem I'm well within the "target" design of this particular suspension mod when it comes to weight, and the fact that these coil overs are not about altering stock geometry for lift, etc.

These shocks, with all of the variable damping, can probably hide some of the concerns with one size fits all spring rates. As long as the static weights or pitch and roll moments don’t change too much. That is probably why they offer two flavors based on wheelbase, 2 door and 4 door. They have an impressive amount of variable damping, including both compression and extension I believe.

static weight is carried by the spring rate dictating static ride height, ie, damper has no effect on this.

Spring rate, along with static weight, also dictates fundamental frequency response, ie, damper has no effect on this.

generally speaking, the spring rate dictates fundamental suspension response and damping fine tunes that response.

FWIW: 8112 spring rates are fronts at 400lbs/in and rears at 288lbs/in

I have my ride height set 1" higher than stock. The ride and handling is extremely similar to the stock suspension. It is however, better controlled over washboard or extremely bumpy roads. I have the high-speed adjusters set completely soft for the road. I don't turn them up until I get off-road.

Hitting the brakes hard doesn't induce as much nose dive either. It rolls forward (shifting weight) and then stops and remains constant from there. Much more control under hard braking.

Since the suspension installation, I've added Next Venture Aluminum skids and a Superwinch. That should be a couple hundred pounds, but didn't notice any real change.

Note: I have the JCR aluminum front bumper. With the winch, it's not much heavier than a steel bumper alone.
