Hi,
I was planning to use my Ford Pass Reward toward the Ford Performance Calibrator. The Ford website provides an installation guide that seems pretty straightforward.

To be safe, I called my local Ford dealer to confirm if any post-install work would be required. They strongly recommended that I have them handle the install, quoting $350 for labor on top of the $825 unit cost.

I also reached out to Ford Performance directly. The rep similarly advised that installation be done by either a Ford dealer or an ASE-certified mechanic, and said the warranty would only apply if installed by a certified tech.

Does this sound right to you? Seems odd to include a step-by-step DIY guide if warranty coverage requires professional installation. Would love to hear from anyone who DIY’d it and had issues or no issues with warranty...

Thanks

The Ford performance tune comes with its own 3/36k warranty and is considered an aftermarket part by Ford. The warranty for any related damages caused by it is through Ford Performance, not Ford.

The Ford performance warranty is only valid if installed by a Ford dealership or ASE mechanic according to their documentation.

I installed the ProCal4 myself. I would highly recommend you perform the install during a weekday when the Ford Performance Tech hotline is available. I had to call them twice, but got it all resolved and installed in just about 1 hour. I've never dealt with any Warranty issues since, so I can't comment on that.

I didn't like the responses and costs I got from any of the local Ford dealers. I found a custom tuning shop that focuses on Mustangs. They have experience in the ProCal tune and would qualify of the warranty. Bonus, they offered a discount on the tune so, installed it's pretty much the same price as the list price of the tune.

I installed it myself this past Sunday. It is EXTREMELY easy to do. Just make sure you download and keep your stock tune.

The whole point of this tune is to have a warranty. That's why it's only worth about 30rwhp on 93 octane. If you're going to install a tune yourself, get one that will give you a much bigger power bump.

I see you're in the Austin Area. I know several people who have used Leif Johnson Ford and were happy. I'd give them a call and see what their cost is.

Just order the device from us and take it to any Ford dealership or ASE certified tech and you'll be covered under the warranty. It should only run you $150-200 for most reputable shops to do the install. If you're getting charged more than that I recommend finding another shop to take the vehicle to. Use coupon code BRONCO6G at checkout for your forum discount.

That is easier said than done. I bought the device from you guys but have yet to find a dealer or shop in SoCal that charges less than $275-300 for the install. Most dealers won’t touch it, and the rest want $400+. I’ve talked to at least a dozen dealerships, and there is no bargaining or reasoning with them, i.e., no leverage whatsoever.

Just order it from FP with the install included. Have it shipped to the Ford dealer of your choice. IIRC, it's $40.

I got mine installed at Galpin in South Bay. Zero issues.

Edit: Ford jacked it up to $114 from $40 lol

My local dealer wouldn’t give me an install price. Afraid it would be $350+ so I just did it myself. I’ve yet to see any post saying their engine blew up in 36,000 miles. With or without the tune.

I live on the edge. I installed it myself
Follow instructions exactly. It’s not hard. But it could be easier

read it 2-3x. Then do it. Don’t 1:2 ass read it and do it. I kinda did that. Struggled at one point

I already bought it from LP so the FP route is not an option. Besides LP sold it to me almost $300 less than FP - I’ll keep looking around for an independent installer and I’m sure this will be the cheaper route by far (or I’ll just bite the bullet and self-install). I’m just disappointed and frustrated that so many Ford dealers are balking, or jacking up the labor costs.

I more or less replied for posterity.

Worst case, you buy it from Ford direct $962 installed at the dealer of your choice.

Got F points? Redeem. Time is money. Enjoy.

P.S. If you're in LA, South Bay did mine no drama

I did exactly that when I got mine, then went to the dealer and they could not install it because they have no USB access, lol. All their computers are locked down and USB will not read any devices plugged in. Went home and did it myself.
They did say to come back for a "free" oil change, since they couldn't refund the $40. Yeah, no thanks, not going back to them.
