Yay! Adding my MIC top failure to the list!

Joining the club! 2023 with 14k miles. Garage kept and only hand washed.

I have the exact same indentation on my clamshell, in the exact same spot. Been there since new…not saying it’s right. Standing by my inital post: these tops are shit. Doesn’t matter which version, year, etc. They fail from within, from the inside out. Poor design and execution.

Been 3 weeks since my dealer inspected my failing center section and STILL waiting for the replacement. I’m sure it’s a part in high demand and will continue to be.

Dealer just ordered my new top for warranty and Ford told them today it was on back order until 4/10. Mine is a new 24 WT that had the cracks around the side glass on both sides fresh off the delivery truck from Ford brand new.

The waves in your front panels, keep us posted on what your dealer has to say. Mine are showing the same, wasn’t like that when new. They were straight but now showing same as yours.

The waves are hard and they've always been there. I basically said it doesn't bode well for those panels holding together long-term. The tech who looked at them actually spotted it on the driver's side panel as well. I'd missed the driver's side. So likely my dealer has seen quite a few failures and the tech knew what to look for.

And yes, I'll report back once I know one way or the other.

I thought maybe I had the rare good one that would stay intact. Not the case, washed it this weekend, and noticed several cracks on the leading edge of the side window for my 2 door. Garage kept, hand washed, no chemicals on hard top, etc.

^This. It's only a matter of time for everyone with a MIC. There is no "good" top. Those that are "good" won't be for long....

Granted, I should also state mine does have quite a bit of snakeskin/honeycomb all over. I just looked at the GSB, and the honeycomb pattern pictured in that is prevalent on ever panel of my 2 door top. I've delayed bringing it in, just in case Ford decided to change up how they are replacing them. I guess I'll just end up with another MIC.

I'm surprised not to see any comments saying "Just enjoy it and quit looking at it so much".

Are the wave patterns known to evolve into a problem like warping or are they generally cosmetic. I have on both removable pieces but nothing so far on the back shell.

Got mine back today after two weeks at the dealer. New top gives a bit of that new car smell to my '23 with 23k miles! Bonus!

You’d have to ask your dealer about it. I have no idea what does and doesn’t apply in Canada.

Thanks for the GSB link. I took it to dealer in Canada and now Ford says it is warranty approved.

PS do you know cost difference between MiC and painted Mod top?

Not off hand, but the painted top is quite a bit more expensive and doesn’t come painted.

If you’re asking wondering if Ford might let you pay the difference, I can assume you they won’t ever do that for a warranty repair lol

Has anyone sprayed a proper line-x type coat over their MIC top to see if it strengthens / thickens the outer layer possibly reducing the potential for cracks?

I understand the argument for lipstick on a pig etc..... just want to see if anyone has actually tried a method to reduce or prevent the cracks before they begin.

So if a coated top didn't crack after some duration.

1. How would one know they waited long enough? How long is "long enough".

2. Also, and mord importantly, if one managed a way around #1, how would one know if their top would have cracked without the coating.

There just isn't much you can learn from doing this without the power of statistics, which requires treating a very large number of tops identically and in two groups, a control and a coated.

Same with my front panels on a 24 2dr. Rear shell appears good so far (aside from being assembled misaligned) but fronts have the wave.

Clearly, Ford doesn't care about the quality of these MIC tops. They continue to let their supplier crank out defective tops, and replace bad with bad. Like I've said before, every one of these is a ticking time bomb and will eventually fail.

Looks like the game Ford wants to play with these is replace until your 3/36K warranty is up, then you're screwed.

I think it's time that everyone who has a MIC topstakes a stand. Everyone. Not just those who had problems, because even if you don't now, you will.

So, I'd like you to stay tuned in this thread. I'm going to get some shit started, and will need everyone who owns these MIC tops to support it.
