I love my Turn Offroad reinforcement, but I am very happy that someone at Ford used that space between their ears and included hinge replacements in the official upgrade.

It looks like the hinge attachment bracket thingies (official name?) are also upgraded/replaced. Is it just for the mounting holes of the new hinges or something that maybe everyone, with extra weight back there, should upgrade?

I ordered too. I wonder if it will even come with those brackets. It’s in the photos but not listed in the description of what you’re getting. Also they don’t picture enough screws to replace the bracket since I believe these use loctite as well.

My RRW wheels weigh 19.5lbs each, so with a 37" KO2, my wheel and tire combination weighs about 4lbs less than the OEM wheel and 35" Goodyear, so I didn't really need the reinforcement kit to support additional weight.

The goal and/or hope is to redistribute that weight across the plate and reinforced hinges, and take the load off the sheetmetal, which flexes and allows to the spare to wobble, causing squeaks, creeks, and such.

So funny to me that the instructions include the step where you have to dremel out the corner of the spare tire mount. It’s a good kit though! Been running the pieced together version from ordering the parts individually for over a year and have had no problems.
Did you have to cut/dremel out the corner on the kit you pieced together?

Is this something we should consider if we have a SAS package, but never intend to hang stuff from the tire?

It depends on the total amount of weight you're hanging off it. If you go to 85lbs 35" tires and upgrade to Sas 35lbs rims (which would be heavy for your axles, too), you're at 120lbs give or take (not including if you put anything on the tire like gas cans). If you keep it under 110lbs, I would say you're probably ok. I believe the limit is around 130lbs, I just wouldn't want to get that close.

So yeah, probably don't need it but tire size matters a lot less than total weight.
Exactly. I am keeping 35s, but the next set will be 65 lb tires. Plus I hang things off of the spare when I am in the woods. I want as much strength back there as possible. These spare tires bounce a lot on the trail. Jeep spares are notorious for breaking off of the back.

Yessir, used a cheap small hand saw to get the big chunk off (I think it was called a jab saw at HD?) and then dremeled to smooth it out. The instruction guide for the kit actually says exactly where to cut but it's pretty clear because of the plastic moulding

If you're off roading a lot, even if it's not anticipated to be that challenging, I'd at least consider upgrading. One thing, keep the spare aired down some, and consider if you roll off something and hit the spare tire on a ledge or lip. The rear door is pretty flimsy, so the strength of the mount and hinge will say a lot about whether it bends into it.

Agree - really happy with my Turn unit and not considering changing it, but nice to see Ford offering this at a reasonable price.

I ordered 1 for each Bronco this morning. 569.00 for both with shipping. We were gonna go with a different version that would have been $1600 plus shipping. I am glad my wife sent me this post.

Turn's product is fantastic, that video of them lifting the entire vehicle by the spare is wild. I'm just a sucker for OEM if I can find a good price

For those of you who were able to have it shipped to them.. was it purchased from Ford Performance or Ford?
Both tell me I need to ship to dealer.
Thanks,
Al

I ordered from the Ford website through my Ford pass account sign in. When I got to the payment page, it asked for shipping address and I entered mine. It accepted it and gave me the discount.
