Same experience as @Johnny Mo above. 8" Comp and KK 500.1. Massive improvement over base (non B&O) 7 speaker system. I sealed the enclosure (really sealed it, see my post) and stuffed the inside. Plenty of good crisp bass for rock, metal, punk, pop, electronic, whatever.

You might try:
  • Flatten the EQ with FORScan
  • Fully seal the port. I found the enclosure plastic to be utterly incompatible with epoxy (i.e. JB Weld and similar). I posted my sealing procedure.
  • Stuff interior with polyfill
  • Check wiring of speaker
  • Ditch the programmed, vehicle specific EQ (it absolutely would not work for me and made the sound abaolutely horrible)
  • Did you set the level according to instructions? I found some of them correct and others incorrect (also noted in my writeup here)
I think most of this was mentioned above except the first and fifth items.

Best of luck.
i dont see your link to your build. could you share ? i'd love to see what you did. thanks

I went from the Mid Level 7 speaker setup, replaced the rear sub with 6.75 kickers, rear uppers with SSV Kicker and Kickers in the dash, and modified Forscan after additional Forscan tweaks from posted; it has incredible sound. Under $1k and a couple of hours. There is no need to replace wheel well speakers

I replaced all my component speakers as well with kickers.

this forscan thing.. I'm wondering if this has something to do with my issue. I didn't mess with it at all.. not even sure how to but I wonder if I need to

My component stuff sounds great. my issue is purely the sub. it just rattles and flexes like crazy and very little bass.

Kesker .. what did you mod in forscan? could you or someone give me a layman's rundown on how I can learn more about this? do I need a software, tool etc. I don't know anything about this

Not bashing kicker, it just isn't worth the money for the reward.

So I swapped out all component speakers and sub for kicker. the sub is the 8" comp that everyone is using. bought the kicker 500.1 key to power it and ... just not impressed.

#1... that is wayyy to much amp for the little 8". My amp is up maybe 1/3 of the way and it just bounces that speaker like a fart in loose silk undies  I have to turn my bass all the way down to get clean sounding bass out of it. watching it thump .... its just to much.

#2 the bass I'm getting is not much more then the factory sub. in some ways the factory sub covered more range and felt better tuned for the system. could this one be chalked up to my tuning of the sub.. maybe a little bit but not to the extent of what I'm hearing. Not to mention.. I blew the 1st sub on start up :( bad wire harness that I paid good money for which was another issue

#3... this mod was not cheap !!!!! lol I'm just peeved I went down this rabbit hole for such minimal results. my system sounds fine and i love everything about it but the sub part.. it just wasn't worth it and that's my main beef.

That little kicker key 500.1 is quite powerful so I'm going to put a single 12" box I have on my shelf in the back and just use that. Just going to divert the speaker wire from the 8" to the 12".. or 10" I have a few nice speakers laying around. I don't like that I will be taking up room in the back but I want some bass that is worth it and that 8" just isn't cutting it.

oh and I did try the factory sub housing as ported and non ported. both ways... disappointing.

Just my opinion.. do it right the first time and think before you spend the money. I brought this bronco home about 3 months ago brand new from the dealer and sank about $7k into mods and out of all of them.. this sub is the only one I'm complaining about.

Just thought I'd share.

You sounds like you know what you're doing, but in your post It doesn't sound like you did much system tuning (adjusting input/output levels along the signal path, adjusting filter and crossover frequencies, etc.). What did you do toward this purpose? Between adjusting the LOC and amplifier settings I was able to tune my system quite a bit to get an output I liked.

your in Michigan as well .. (y) I'm over in the Lapeer area.

i only did tuning with the amp itself. mentioned above was forscan.. I'm looking for info on how to work with that. I'm old school speakers systems so this newer stuff.. stumps me sometimes.

I'm open to suggestions on tuning in this 8" sub ... speak slow cuz .. I'm slow lol this is the first time in my life I have messed with an 8" sub. I have always used 10's and 12's for bass.

I mean rattling as in the speaker flexes.. bounces.. the movement is crazy. not the sound of rattling. sorry .. i suck at putting my thoughts into words. this speaker acts like i'm putting 3k watts to it when i actually have the amp turned up only about 1/3 of the way and it still seems like to much power.

Are you using an LOC (line output converter)?

oh I wasn't expecting eye ball shaking. like I said, I was just expecting a bit more then stock and .. it just doesn't seem like it did that. again.. not bashing the mod just sharing for me.. I would say to someone whos going down this road.. invest in something other then that factory enclosure.
I went down that rabbit hole…TWICE!

My first Bronco was a Badlands with the normal audio. I swapped all of the speakers with kicker and used a kicker 800w watt amp to power a 12” subwoofer. It actually sounded decent.

About 6 months later, traded in Badlands for the raptor with the B&O system, and everyone knows the B&O system SUCKS. So I thought all I had to do was change out the speakers again and put in the same 800w amp. This actually made it way worse.

So I spoke with Fraser with Mobridge and got the DSP/AMP, went to my local audio guy and recommended Focal 3-ways etc.

Long story short, I wish I went the “right” way first. It was expensive, but worth it. Buy once, cry once…

Look up the Forscan changes/settings that need to be changed. This made a world of difference for me. If you haven't done anything Forscan related, then I'd start there before ripping everything out. I'm not a techy, but I found one close to me who helped me do it.

edit: but I do not have Lux or the B&O system stock in my Bronco. That may change things, but I have a feeling Forscan settings need to be tweaked, if you haven't done that.

I did the ForScan changes back in July after I did the speaker swap, it definitely helped with the sound (before I added a sub). I can't remember all of the details but here are the links to check out.
You need one of these adapters, I think there are others but this is what I bought https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MQ8GHG3?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
