Ok, I might get some flack for this, but: I'm looking at picking up a '25 Bronco Outer Banks, but am concerned with MPG.
I would likely get a higher end intake system (Roush or K&N), look into weight-saving parts I can swap out, and drive in Eco Mode as much as possible with a light foot.

Has anyone else tried improving their Bronco's MPG, and if so, what were your results? I've love to be able to get around 25 MPG, but I have a feeling that's not possible.

Thanks!!
I put on the k&n CAI and changed the downtube for the turbo along with a few more options like the corsa exhaust. It really gained me nothing in MPG as I am flatlining around 18mpg but I do 90% local non highway driving. I am pretty sure I would get 20 if I had more highway. My reason was to hopefully get more HP and maybe a little better mpg.

Best I've managed was 19.5 mpg in eco and driving like an old man, and around 60mph.
My 2 door manual got a little bit better on the highway, cause I had more control over keeping the turbo from kicking in. Even then it was maaayybe 22mpg.. down hill.

We have an 85mph toll road here. If I dare go that speed, I get like 10mpg. It's a brick.

Aah, that's helpful -- thanks!
I haven't seen anyone talk about that yet, so that's great. =)
I have gotten this when setting the cruise control at 65mph. That is the ONLY time I have gotten anywhere near this mpg. My 2.3L 4-door 7-speed averages about the same city or highway and that is around 17.5mpg (real calculation), not the wildly optimistic mpg the trip computer gives you (always at least 1mpg high, sometimes up to 2mpg high)

I've gotten as low as 15mpg on the highway with the cruise set at 80mph coming back on I-90 from Montana.

Did non ethanol help the drivability of the Bronco? What grade did you put in. My 2012 Acura I put non ethanol in and was wondering if non ethanol is what I should go with in my Bronco.
Ethanol free is always available here at 90 octane and most snowmobiles and ATV's fill up with it as opposed to vehicles. It is usually priced around the same price as super. That being said you do get better fuel mileage (about 10% based on the simple math of BTU's/gallon) but the mile or so per gallon improvement does not make up for the cost. As for drive ability of the Bronco there is no significant difference--no different than running super. Some have claimed a noticeable improvement from running super but I have never experienced and appreciable gains other than me thinking I am to justify the expense.

I bought a 2022 outer banks in Jan 2023.
Real life best mileage is 20.8 over 11k miles average.

best possible for me is 24-25 mpg at 60 ish mph, as light as possible.

Just did a trip from fl to ct, loaded pretty good with gear and got 22.3 mpg to 23.8mpg.

i baby it. Slow to accelerate, drive way ahead and brake easy, use cruise control as much as possible. Use auto start/stop as much as possibly even though I dislike it and feel I’ll be replacing a starter.
FYI towing is no bueno on mpg, 14mpg with a small enclosed trailer, turbo pressure never ran so high, engine temp ran about 224ish, it didn’t like it, pulls open utility trailer fine.

vehicle: 2022 outer banks 4 cylinder auto.
Mods; painted Sasquatch flares, 2” wheel spacers on each wheel, rear drawer from ford,.
Oil changed at 3991 & 10890 mobile 1
McGuires marine UV A & B protection wax, before each road trip (4 times so far) I like my paint as smooth as possible.

I have a 2 door wildtrak In town I average 18 maybe a little over. I run premium fuel and yes it makes a difference. The best I’ve gotten on a road trip was in the San Juan’s we got two tanks over 26. On average over 4K trip it was 24.2 and that was on trails in Moab to mountain roads Ouray. And 1200 miles of 75 mph interstate driving each way. Now my driving style is low RPM pulling and not high RPM acceleration. My Bronco has never seen a 4K RPM mark unless my kids do it lol

My 2024 4-door Wildtrak, with just 1,800 miles on the odometer, averages 20.1 mpg combined for city and highway driving during my daily 100-mile commute (50 miles each way). Despite its 35-inch tires and suboptimal aerodynamics, I’m impressed that I can achieve 20-22 mpg on the highway @70 mph, mainly by using Eco mode and maintaining a light foot especially driving in city

Since this thread was resurrected, I'd figure I'd chime in (again) .
And although I'm not going to scroll through all the posts, I did see this one. Not only did it actually make me legitimately laugh out loud, it's completely accurate. Also, I'll probably reference this again 😉

Anyway, for anyone new to the Bronco world wondering about this. The reality of the situation is, that there is going to be a percentage of people that really love the Bronco, but can't justify actually owning one. And that is really the internal battle going on here. 'If only I could get 5 to 10 MPGs more, than I could justify buying one for my daily'

I get it, I do. But here's the deal. Broncos are not practical for daily commuting to the office. If you want to justify buying one, tell yourself whatever lie you need to, but on paper, there is no justification for a Bronco, except sacrificial happiness.

Milage - get a Prius
Speed - get a Porsche
Luxury - get Rolls Royce
Reliability - get a Lexus
Rock crawling - get a side by side
Cargo area - get a minivan
Overlanding/rooftop camping - get a truck
Hauling a trailer - get a bigger truck

You want a really cool looking vehicle, where you can take the top and doors off, be more comfortable with the best ride quality in an off road centric vehicle, and have a hobby that will empty your wallet every time you turn around - buy a Bronco.

And if all you want to do is drive it to work because you just love the Bronco - than get one.
Just know, you really can't rationally justify it, other than, it makes you happy. But that has value.

But make no mistake, it will cost you more money, it's up to you to decide if that's where you want to spend it.

I just got a 22 4 door big bend with 18k on it and I'm getting 24.6 and I live in NH so it isn't all flat. there are no mods done on the truck everything is stock. though it's not 25 close enough in my book, I've actually been as high as 24.8 and a low of 24.5 of course your mileage may vary :)
