@Ducati1098 Does this " Transmission fluid heater coolant control valve", just turn on and off coolant flow? Could you just bypass the valve as a trail fix?
Yes it can be bypassed without any issue.
Ford just uses it to allow the transmission to warm up quicker.

So at start up its diverting warm coolant from? The engine coolant loop, then once the coolant is at X temp it stops doing that?

The coolant flow is what cools the transmission fluid. So when the transmission is cold, it shuts off the pump and restricts coolant flow through the transmission cooler, so the transmission fluid can warm up.

Once the transmission fluid is at a certain temperature, the pump will turn on and cool the transmission fluid going through the transmission cooler.

By passing the pump it will be cooling the fluid at all times, but it won’t make a difference. The transmission fluid just won’t warm up quite as quickly.

Alright so I picked up a fitting and bypassed the " Transmission fluid heater coolant control valve". I let the vehicle idle for a few minutes and added 3/4 gallon of coolant. I'm not sure how much I lost but the coolant expansion/overflow tank is about where I recall seeing it normally, 3/4ths full. I drove it around the block at about 25 mph and noticed the front fans kick on almost immediately. I can't recall if this is normal as I have the doors off right now. I also noticed a slight vehicle stutter under low throttle no acceleration.

I also noticed the split between engine and transmission temperature but see the trans slowly climbing. Any of that sound odd to you?

I would just keep an eye on the coolant temperature. I know it doesn’t give you an actual temperature, but make sure it’s not going into the high area. The fans coming on may be because it thinks it’s overheating due to an air pocket in the cooling system. It may take a little while to bleed all the air out of it. Just keep an eye on the coolant level. The transmission temperature I wouldn’t worry about. It’s not going to do anything abnormal from bypassing the pump.

I'm documenting for anyone who runs into similar issues.

Decided to try and drive to work this morning, 30 minute trip, about 10 miles at 45mph.

Vehicle started normally but with check engine light illuminated. Anticipated as the before mentioned valve was bypassed.

I decided to baby it in normal mode just trying to get to work and purge some of the air that my be in the loop.

Under light acceleration to 45 mph the vehicle was stuttering. It appeared to be electronically limited , the engin was not sputtering. Rpms appeared to be limited to under 2k.

Engine oil gradually rose over the course of 10 minutes to 268 degrees followed by the coolant over temp alarm.

~30 seconds after alarm sounded oil temperature rapidly fell to roughly 198 degrees and maintained in this area for approximately 15 minutes.

Traffic slowed to approximately 5 mph. Check engine light began blinking coolant overtemp light remained on. Oil and trans temps remained stable, 198 and 114 degrees.

At the top of a hill vehicle lost power and, subsequent attempts to restart failed. Coolant temp alarm stayed on.

Coolant level dropped to max I had over filled slightly.

Buddy pulled me the last 1/4 miles to parking lot.

Ill update at end of shift to see how vehicle is doing.

Good news I got shipping notification for the part I need.

My buddy is bringing his code reader to where my car is parked tomorrow so I'll know a bit more. Currently in the ford app I am seeing and Engin Misfire detected and a Fault with engine coolant temperature sensor and associated wiring. I thought maybe the misfires were associated with limp mode but going to just not drive it.

I'll read codes tomorrow, replace the part Wednesday and read codes again. Worst case ill have to drop it off at the dealer and pick up a rental.
