Correct, if you remove the front section you wouldn’t be able to leave the wind deflector on. You’d have to remove the light bar and mount it to the studs above the windshield once you remove the rack.

I originally was just planning on running a 270 awning and cargo boxes. That was until my kids were hanging out in my friends ikamper. They kept bugging for a RTT. They are growing so fast and enjoy camping. I’m good with the ground tent, but I want to make camping as fun as I can for them. Id much rather spend the money on an RTT for them rather than iPads and video games. If it makes it fun for them and makes them want to get out it’s well worth it to me.

that squared bean is so sick! I would love to get a trailer but unfortunately I don’t have anywhere to store it. My 62 bel air wagon takes up most of my driveway. I don’t have room in the garage for one either. So that’s as out of the question for now. Hopefully one day though.
Thanks; this lines up with what I expected and was thinking. I definitely like the Prinsu Pro styling and low profile a bit more, but I think the ability to just leave it on, forget about it, and also get the roof panels out in a pinch if I want to (for instance, I could see wanting the full rack on for some longer summer trips where we could potentially want to pull the panels while out exploring) pushes the Trailrax up for me as the better choice.

I guess on RTTs I always figured the 4 person ones would ultimately be tight for a family of 4. We like using a 6 person tent now so that everyone has plenty of floor space. The other thing I never cared for was that you cannot be mobile once you are setup. I know they are way easier to put up and take down versus a free standing tent, but I always prefered having the "basecamp" feel to being able to just come back to all your stuff setup on 3 or 4 night camping stays.

We have a lot of storage garages around here where I could keep a trailer, or alternatively, I may be able to fit it into our 3rd garage bay. I just looked at the dimensions and hadn't processed how wide (90") these suckers are though, so that could be a bigger challenge quite frankly (it feels hard enough to get my Raptor in the garage at 86" plus wide and trying to back a trailer like that in straight would probably be quite the exercise).

I have a 6 person and 10 person instant tent. The extra room is nice but I’ve come to realize we only use the tent for sleeping. A 4 person roof top tent has more than enough room for 2 adults and 2 kids. I wasn’t sold on it before. I became a believer when me and the family (wife and two kids) got in my buddy’s ikamper. Plenty of room for us to sleep comfortably. I couldn’t justify spending That much on an ikamper though. I ended up going with a OVS 4 person Bundu tent (I preordered it since it’s hasn’t been released yet). I got a great deal on the tent and 270 awning. I usually don’t leave base camp and only use the tent to sleep in. If I do leave it’s to go for a hike, fishing, etc. My vehicle stays put.

That sucks about your roof rack being bent. I can see where that can be a weak point though. Hopefully it’s covered under warranty. And I’m also curious to know how they rate them. Is it all based on calculations or has it actually been tested with that much weight? Is there an actual industry standard for load rating them? Or is it simply all left up to the manufacturer to decide the weight capacity? It’s probably similar to companies rating lumens on their LED lights.
Trailrax warranty is 1 year and i was out of coverage then. A replacement is around 200 before tax and shipping. I dont want to furthe invest in their system.

So prinsu side rail is two-layer structure, is that correct?

Yeah correct, the Prinsu pro has a 2 layer structure. The old Prinsu design had a single layer.

I’d love to know how you bent that rail. It’s seriously strong. Maybe it was a defect that didn’t show until it’s too late.

No, I checked the photo the first time I installed, it is straight.

My guess is the twist between windshield frame and body frame cause this. TBH, some extra load like rtt, IMHO, could reinforce the structure.

The reason I am interested in Prinsu is that my previous TrailRax side rail is slightly bent right above the driver seat and I don't carry any load at that time. IMHO, that part is the weakness. A long rail section with no clamp or support + a taper profile. Not saying Prinsu is better because I don't see it in person. But looks promising.
I have slight bends in the main support side structures of my Trailrax as well...the driver's side has a small concave "dent" on the top of the side structure and the passenger's side has a convex "buckle" on the top of the side structure. I have a feeling the Bronco has more body flex than we think and since the rack is bolted down at all 4 corners, the flexing ends up buckling the rack at the side structures.

Actually, your bends are different from mine.

I think you are right on the body flex.

Gotcha. We often camp more in national parks or areas close to them and need our vehicle mobile to be able to drive out to explore and also get to trail heads in the general area for hiking. If you do want to just setup somewhere for a few days and take it easy, I see the logic in the RTT approach for sure.

Yes, no crap. I'm still thinking about doing Trailrax, but definitely think the $150 reinforcement pieces would be a good addition. I wonder if there is actually less flex with a Raptor as opposed to a regular Bronco as I know the overall structure is reinforced and braced quite a bit.

That being said; I think having a Braptor will likely lead to "spirited driving." Seems like the whole point :).

If you can post yours, we could learn more :)
It’s hard to get a good picture showing the whole rack, but the first pic is towards the rear on the driver’s side, on the 2nd top slot from the back. Second pic is toward the front of the passenger side, on the 3rd slot from the front.

These buckles are on the edges of the long slots along the top of the side structures. I brought this up to Trailrax a year or two ago, when I noticed it and they did not feel it would impact the structural integrity. I have considered adding the additional braces that the Braptor has, but don't look forward to removing the rack and the hardtop again...those windshield nuts are a pain in the ass.
