Has anyone Installed a Half Roof Rack?

I really wanted the TrailRax 2-door half-rack, but it doesn't play nicely with the Sunrider, so I went with Badass Tents which is a bit shorter and allows the Sunrider to fold back properly.

I bought one of these and could never figure out how to install it. Neighbor is engineering student and he couldn't figure it out. The thing seemed to be about a 1/2 inch too narrow and we were afraid to tighten the bolts in the cross bars and put stress on the roof, which I understand is cardboard covered with a plastic skin.

Did you ever sort this out, or call BAT? I’m still looking for a clean and simple way to carry additional fuel.
