PPF on the whole thing. Expensive, but keeps it like new and not constantly polishing away the scratches on the thin factory clear coat.

SunTek Ultra Defense. It is 11.5 mil. I put it on sides and hood. Amazing how well it works. After running on a old, very overgrown railroad grade near Death Valley, it was scratched to crap. Within a couple of days all we healed.

I got the XPEL Ultimate Self Healing on my Bronco, head to toe.
It's done amazing holding up to some pretty decent abuse.
There's little holes in a couple spots where I'm surprised it did as well as it did, but otherwise everything still looks fantastic.
Against light branches and brush, you'll never even know you touched them.
Bigger branches or rocks... it'll help, but it's not invincible 😊

I've always recommended against having mudflaps on vehicles used off road. It might, of course, depend on the type of terrain and trails you are tackling, but in my experience mud flaps always get torn off the vehicle when driven in rocks and deep mud (especially in reverse gear). Depending on how and how well they are mounted, they can damage the fenders and fender liners. There are probably mounting solutions if you want them for road use and remove them easily before going off road.

I have a non 2DR non-SAS Badlands ordered that I intend to use as it was built to be used -- I live near a lot of great trails. But, I do want to keep it as nice as possible and try to at least mitigate the rock chips, trail scratches and rash and other things that will be inevitable.

I am wondering what all you offroaders do for paint protection. I plan to swap out for the SAS fender flares and probably add some mudflaps for more protection from rock chips. I will also do my standard PFF on the entire grill and leading edges that I do on all my vehicles, but also I am considering PPF on the sides -- either partial or maybe even full coverage.

What have you done on your rig? Flares, flaps PPF, other?
PPF, mud flaps.

The PPF, while expensive, has worked BRILLIANTLY. I will put it on every new car I buy from here on out. I'm only bummed I didn't know it existed when I bought my Mustang. Every single think that has brushed against my Bronco or hit it (car doors, tree trunks) has not damaged the paint. I have some dents, but the paint is like new.

I'm a big fan of PPF - I went with SunTek, not sure the thickness. I know that it's a consumable item so within maybe 3.5 years I'll need to have it removed and re-applied.

Nothing.. Mine is pinstriped to all holy heck.. My whole body looks like this and all my wheels look like the one posted.

I bought it to wheel so I am not worried about cosmetics.

Just don't wash it and you'll never see the carnage.. LOL

I talked to these guys at that Big Stellantis Party in Pigeon Forge a couple weeks ago. The stuff feels pretty rugged, goes on easy and peels right off, no mess. I feel it would be great protection against pinstripes. They were peeling it off and putting it back on their show rig all weekend and looked great. YMMV.

I actually often use my paint to keep the trails clear. It's really effective for removing overgrown brush, protruding fallen logs, or any other obstacles trying to prevent my exploration lol. Hesitant to use your paint? Rims work wonderfully as well.

Do any of you guys with PPF have videos of you running down tight trails and photos showing the PPF afterwards (or months later)? I'm on the fence with it and curious to see what type of abuse it holds up to.

How does it stay on? And does it take 4 hands to install?

It's a little tacky on the back but doesn't leave a residue at all. I peeled it off, put it on several times and seemed pretty clean. It's like a vinyl "cling".

The sales guy said it goes on "pretty easy" but does take some care to not get bubbles under it. I was only working with a piece about 8.5"x11". I would imagine a panel-sized piece would take some practice. Need to start with a clean surface (obviously). It's nothing like PPF, it's probably 5x thicker so it doesn't fold over on itself like PPF or plastic wrap.

As others have stated, I have full body PPF and ceramic coating. It is surviving amazingly and beats my expectations from what I have put it through in the last year (manzanetas!)

. I have the same use vs still looking nice desire. If you can stomach the XPEL pricing, you likely won't be disappointed.
