GOAT question for a 2022 Black Diamond

My Bronco did NOT come with the Baja mode. What am I missing out on? Should I use FORScan to try to add it to the Black Diamond. I live in North Texas so I don't have large chunks of desert to go tearing across. Is there a non-desert use for the Baja mode? Thanks.

I would think running in Sport and selecting the appropriate 4wd mode would give you what you want.

I have a Big Bend, if I had Baja I'd trade ya for Rock Crawl.

BD has the base suspension so I assume its not made to handle baja. I leave mine in sport all time and its great.

Sport mode + 4H = Baja mode pretty much.

I guess I’m just old, but I’ve never used a GOAT mode other than eco a few times and think they’re just a gimmick. I prefer to control when I use 4 hi/lo, turn lockers on/off, shift up/down, etc. I understand there may be some subtle transmission and throttle response differences between the modes. My badlands Sasquatch doesn’t have sport mode. Don’t miss it. So I guess what I’m saying is, you’re probably not missing anything by not having Baja mode. YMMV.

I wish I could have the sporty steering calibration with the normal drive mode

I agree with you.

I have no use for any of the GOAT modes. I have a Base Sasquatch, so the modes are limited anyway. Eco doesn't do the right thing on paved mountain roads, so I never use that. There are very rare occasions when I might have been able to use Sport mode, but I don't know in advance when I'll need it.

I've been happy just leaving mine in Normal mode and switching between 2H/4H/4L/4A as needed. I've used trail control a couple of times to get the right speed down a steep hill, but in 4L it's close enough anyway that it's not worth the bother of using that either.

In my opinion, the GOAT modes are a gimmick that aren't worth the bother. (Even a more useless gimmick on the Bronco Sport.)

When we were at Moab Offroadeo and we were "testing out" Baja mode, the trail staff essentially said this but added it was a bit more like "Baja Mode was Sport Mode on steroids" only due to the higher rpm threshold that Baja Mode keeps the engine at when idling, etc.

Not even close. Someone else suggested it was like sport mode on steriods, and that's a fair description of Baja Mode.

Those who think that the GOAT modes are a gimmick don't understand what the GOAT modes really do. The GOAT modes change parameters that we can't change through other means.

Also, anyone can add all the GOAT modes, so if you don't have them, that's because you haven't wanted to enable them with FORSCAN.

If my Black Diamond is capable of having all the GOAT modes enabled without any additional hardware costs, why did Ford choose to NOT install the Baja mode when they built my vehicle? What am I missing here? Thanks.

Because technically the suspension cannot handle the anticipated loads of driving Baja style. You can add anything you want with Forscan.

What are you missing? Ford forcing you into a higher trim package to get the GOAT modes you wanted and Ford's profit.

In some cases you simply can't buy a trim that has the GOAT modes you want. Thank god for FORSCAN, I would have dumped the Bronco without it, but with it I am incredibly happy.

Ford left off a ton of features and made the Bronco obnoxious in many ways. Thankfully, my non-sasquatch OBX Bronco now has all the GOAT modes, full stop and go adaptive cruise control, my headlights allow high beam and fog lights simultaneously, there's no stupid double honk, and most of stupid mode change chimes are gone, most nanny chimes are suppressed (including seat belt warnings).

Also, the HOSS 2.0 suspension isn't that much better than the Hitachi shocks where Baja mode would be "too much" for the suspension. It is a better suspension, but it's more about controlling the unsprung weight than it is about the GOAT modes.

BTW, Baja mode in 2H with the Flowmaster Outlaw High Clearance Axle Back Exhaust is hilarious and so obnoxious at the same time. I can't imagine daily driving in Baja mode.
