I have a 2022 Bronco with the MIC. Some slight snake skin but it still looks very good and I regularly use 303 protectant on it. I plan to keep my Bronco for decades and my only concern is the top. I would replace it with aftermarket down the road but wonder if doing something now may make it hold up.
LINEX:
I know some have done it (photo from another member here) and I have a few questions:
1. Did they mask everything off and leave the top on while applying it?
2. Did they remove the windows or the rear door/glass?
3. Was any other coating applied to the top of the LineX to get the shine effect?
4. In your opinion, will this prevent the hair line cracking we have seen or if the top cracks, will it show through the LineX?
5. If you want to share the prep work they did (sanding, etc.)

For those that have PAINTED:
Basically, the same questions????
I assume paint is thinner than the LineX so if top cracking occurred.....would it not then also crack the paint?

I like the look of the MIC top and I am willing to do one of the above IF it will prevent some of the failures we have seen of the MIC top.

I have not seen these specific questions addressed, others may be curious too.
Thank you!!!

My thoughts on #4: The Line-X will not crack. Even better, if prepped correctly, I think it will spread and fill a bit before it hardens. After that, I think it will be the protective layer that Ford should have put on there to begin with or at least as part of a recall acknowledging that they are applying a fix to the problem. That would be better than the run around both the dealer and Ford has been giving me.

There are a couple of owners on here that went the Line-X route, I hope they chime in about how it has been holding up.

If all goes well... it looks like someone else has picked up the ADV top supply. If that is true, I will line up again (I like the IKEA nature about it that everyone else hates as it implies that I can mfg. modular parts, etc.), get my OEM hardtop Line-X'd, and put it up for sale at 1/2 the cost of a new one.

Between paint and Line-X, I personally would go with the Line-X route strictly for longevity. That said, I would find a reputable applicator in your area and get a quote. If the price is high, it might be worth it to spring for an aftermarket one.

If you do it, please post results!

I can’t answer your specific questions about prep and the exact procedures used to spray, but what I can say is I had my mic top sprayed over 2 years ago by ProLiner in Tyler, TX and it still looks great! I did have them add the optional UV protectant. You can look them up and ask for Jesse to ask your questions about prep and procedures.

I did ALOT of Line-X on my Bronco, front and rear bumpers, fender flares, front of hood, front grille, bottom of doors, side mirrors, rock sliders, hard top, roll cage, etc. I have a Gen 1 Raptor that I had the fender flares and metal portions of the bumpers done and it came out amazing. They ended up doing the side steps as well because it looked so much better than the factory and I had the Magnetic Metallic done vs the factory black. When I got the Bronco, I knew I wanted to use Line-X for both protection and aesthetics. As far as the top is concerned, I know they did remove the rear glass for sure as the rear wiper wasn't connected back properly when I got it back. As far as everything else on the hard top it looks like it was taped off. You can request they add some gloss to the topcoat if you like the shine. I don't know your specific situation and if this is your only means of transportation, if not, then I would probably try to do the teardown myself and just bring the parts in that you are wanting covered. If that isn't an option than do your homework, these franchises are individually owned and operated so the quality of work can vary from shop to shop unfortunately. Line-X, as a whole, stands behind their product so if you have an issue, you shouldn't have an issue getting it corrected, outside of the hassle of doing so. I think the Carbonized Grey color looks great in Line-X. I do think, for me, if I had to do over again, I probably would steer away from the lighter colors like the Cactus Grey as it shows dirt very easily and also any imperfections in the Line-X job itself. I hope this helps, if you have any other questions just message me. I have attached some pics of my Bronco for reference, and also one of the Raptor so you can see the Line-X on the front bumper, fender flares and running boards.

I can’t say what it would be for the top alone. I had the mic top, fender flares, rock sliders and front and rear bumpers and grill all done and I think it was about $3500, of course that was 2 years ago.

I would love some updates on the long term durability of this finish.

I have had no issues with mine, live in Florida sun and take it on and off frequently based on weather. Probably doesn't pertain to the top as much but as far as the lower items like bumpers I would suggest sticking to the darker colors as you can stain the lighter colors. If I had to do over again I would have stuck with the Carbonized Grey color for bumpers as well vs the Cactus Grey. Carbonized Grey looks and holds up great.
