I see you went with the Audiomobile GTS, did you consider the Encore 4412?

Looks good!

I'm a cheapskate and build my own. I have built several over the years. They are not hard to do at all. I also use glue, along with screws, when I assemble them so there is no chance of rattles.

3/4" MDF or 3/4" plywood minimum. Here's one for a 10" sub. It's heavy duty and will support virtually anything stacked on top of it. I'm 250lbs and sat on it before it was installed.

Used large wooden dowels for the legs.

Use the push type connectors for quick removal if needed. You can see the extra blue wire for moving it around as needed.

There is a formula for correct "cubic inches" sizing to the woofer. Lots of help on the web.

Here is another one with 2 10" subs that I built for our Buick. Sides are made from ripped 2x6s and top and bottom are made from OSB. This unit is fairly heavy.

About a year and a half ago i started to upgrade my B&O system.

At first I tried to replace the stock speakers including the subwoofer and added a separate amp for the subwoofer. The OEM amp was not able to drive the aftermarket speakers.

I decided to go mObridge and replace the B&O system all together. I replaced the subwoofer OEM box with a custom box and that made a huge improvement. But it was a little too punchy for me.

While I was shopping for a subwoofer box designed for the trunk I came across to the box built by the guys at MTI Acoustic and I was sold. From the communication with Jim Skaggs, to the packaging and shipping, just pure profesionalism. Did I mentioned the quality of the subwoofer box?

A down firing box that is designed for the Bronco trunk with a 12” Audio Mobile GTS subwoofer that delivers a smooth and detailed low end.

With two presets using the custom box in the OEM location I can disconnect the trunk box and remove it when I need the trunk space.

What cover on the side panel do you have with the honey comb and bronco outline?

I did not need that much power and when you compare the two in a modeling SW the GTS was really close in performance. Then there is the $$ difference when you go Encore series.
I have an 8” Evo in the OEM location and that one is rocking as well in a custom box (except the rattles of the quarter panel).

They look good! I consider myself handy but not when it comes to working with wood. Then you need proper equipment and when you only do one box you are better off getting it off shelf sometimes.

Thanks. You are right. Just throwing that out there for ideas. I like the idea of the lock box built into the speaker box, clever.

I enjoy building things. No where close to being a cabinet maker quality but when it's covered with speaker box material it covers any imperfections.

(A battery drill, circular saw and a jigsaw is all I used to build them.)

Got to stay busy when you retire to stay young.

Nice looking boxes!

The occasional harmonic-induced rattle is something I’ve been looking at addressing — this is a good compromise between sound and cargo space, as it’s still fairly useable.

I had a regular mostly square external enclosure for my 12” but couldn’t stand having to pull it out all the time every time I wanted to put my toolbox in the back end

I would say Badlands. 2.3 without all the lux bells and whistles. Expensive gadgetry to replace when it dies. I’m very happy with the 2.3. I can’t say I wouldn’t be happier with the 2.7. I would say the 2.3 is plenty unless you plan on running up sand hills. You do loose one pedal drive I believe it’s called with the 2.3. Kind of nice for slow going trials rides.

I just did a complete system from MTI and it sounds fantastic. Focal Flax 3ways in the front with the MTI dash plates. Focal Flax 6.5” in the rear using the MTI rear pod enclosures. MTI tailgate sub enclosure with a JL TW3-12. MTI stock sub enclosure amp rack with JL VXI 800/8 on the mids and highs and a JL XDM 600/1 on the sub. Jeff Hald from MTI did the JL max tune. If anyone has been wondering the MTI tailgate sub box clears the ford pull out

Reading through this, I was thinking the same thing....1/2 speaker box, 1/2 security box. Would like more details on the security enclosure you used and more pics, assuming you don't mind sharing.
