Hello,
I have scoured the forum and found references to OTA updates not working for some. I have had my Bronco Raptor since March, and have not received one notification for an update...does anyone have a reference to the current sync or software version that would apply to a 2024 BRaptor? Also, when I attempted to check my current version, it doesn't seem to line up with the format that others post when updates are released - is there another way to confirm (other than a dealership visit) what I have?
My screenshot from the vehicle settings shows:
SYNC4, Software Version 23237_PRODUCT / Revision: 980.
I have tried to reset the system, change WiFi source and nothing ever pops up...
Thank you all in advance!

According to Ford, it should 24ddd for the 2024 Bronco. This does not make much sense to me in terms of how you decode the Sync version, but that's what it says. 23237 would be software approved for release on the 237th day of 2023, so I don't know what ddd means.

Well, its a bit confusing for sure.

1) Ford decides what VINs receive what updates, and when. Though you do have to have a battery in a good state of charge. Larger updates may require wifi being enabled
2) Sometimes an issue with a module on your rig will block updates from being applied, and you'll never know it

You can:

1) You can engage Ford owner support, and they can look on their end and see if something is up. This worked for me actually to get the fullscreen CarPlay update pushed.

2) Ask your dealer to fix it by manually pushing updates into your rig through FDRS. Totally a crapshoot if they have their shit together AND care about you enough to do it

3) Buy the proper cable ($500 for a cheap one, $1500 for an official one), and install the dumpster fire of a software that is FDRS, and apply the updates yourself, which could totally brick your rig if you have no idea WTF you are doing.

What feature/bug fix is it you are looking for, or do you just want to know that you have the latest? If it ain't broke don't fix it is a pretty solid approach with Ford software quality.

Interesting to me there, that there are two hardware versions. I'm assuming one of those is the 8" screen and the other is the 12", which is why for 2024 there is only one.

Agreed on all point but this one. FDRS is full of guided routines that do all the work for you. If a module bricks, guided routine to recover it is there. it's pretty dummy proof, IMO. Like you said, the initial investment to get the tools needed are more than many are willing to spend. Whether it is worth it or not will depend on who you ask. If you ask me, every Sync 4 Ford owner should have a Mongoose in their arsenal.

This is great - thank you all for the responses and details! So it does look like I have an "old" version of Sync if the 23237 was from last year (since my truck is a 2024)...

I am NOT looking for something specific - just looking to ensure I have the most current versions of software/patches available.

What is the best way to contact Ford Owner support? Seems like this might be the best approach to try first? I would buy the cable - is there a significant difference in the $500 to $1500 version?

Oh I understand that, but depending on someone's skill level at using a computer in general, this could be way above their heads. It's not like the software starts with a tutorial or anything. It certainly didn't give me the warm and fuzzies dealing with it, starting with the installation process, and later learning that they sometimes take services offline and you can't login in Sunday nights, despite having just payed $50 to use some software for 48 hours.

My success with FDRS was taking a video to prove to my dealer that while my AWD module was saying it was applying updates, it clearly wasn't. I ended up having the AWD module replaced entirely.

I returned my Mongoose adapter with Amazon as I had no further use for it once my issue is resolved. I may buy another someday. That's a lot of coin to spend on a dongle.

The $1,500 VCM is the one dealers use. It writes faster reducing the amount of time you spend installing updates. Worth it for a dealer, but not for an individual.

Being a 2024 owner, I don't think there would be enough updates pending for you to invest in it. If you have the disposable income and want to have it to liberate yourself from dealer dependencies for minor stuff, then go ahead. However, you have to understand that just because your truck is missing an APIM update to be at the latest one, it does not mean the update is available for you to install on the server side even with FDRS. Or, you may have to install other updates first before that one gets released. It's a rabbit hole than once you fall into it, there's not getting out of it. lol I would suggest you just enjoy your new truck for a bit before you start worrying about not being on the latest update. Chances are, there is nothing new in whatever 24ddd has.

Awesome - thank you so much! The truck is operating fine...I just keep seeing posts about new OTA updates and (like in a computer or phone) wanted to have the latest and greatest...

@RagnarKon put together a nice video which explains a lot of this here:

I can't exactly remember who I spoke to at Ford for my own initial issue, I believe it was specifically Sync support. You can probably call in one of those numbers here to see if that gets you anywhere.

https://www.ford.com/help/contact/#chat

Since your rig is under warranty, maybe just ask at your next oil change to have the dealer resolve it. Others may offer some better advice, good luck.

Post or send me your VIN and I can see what you have pending. Keep in mind that the OTA process is hot garbage and older vehicles are going to have more pending than you and will get updates yours will never see since it was already built with them.

You're only showing door module updates. FDRS just for updates would be wasteful. These modules will be updated with OTA DDM 24.11.5 which is being talked about here and is getting mixed reviews:

https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/thre...ion-ota-software-update-now-installing.97202/

Like I said: Enjoy your truck and don't fall down the rabbit hole.

THANK YOU again! This is great! I am not having ANY issues with the vehicle (other than the ones I am creating for myself installing and buying stuff for it)...so I will wait. I DID call Ford Customer Support and their response was "because your vehicle hasn't received an update for the past 60 days, we cannot verify your software versions". I just kind of chuckled and said "so do I have an issue or not" and the answer was "go to the dealership and have them update your software and then you will start getting updates". A very circular and interesting [lack of] response.
