I have been researching dash cams. Trying to find the best option for the Bronco. Let me know of ones you would recommend or stay away from. Have yet to be able to come up with a true winner of my own. Thanks

Looking forward to answers as well. Those with 2nd rear facing especially.

Viofo A139 pro 2 channel. Has the newest Sony sensors, and is very compact without a display which was a hard requirement for me.

I like the form factor, the image quality, the thinness of the cables that need to be run all the way in the back, and the compactness of the connections. The price is also reasonable relative to other options that use similar tech.

The app is crappy, but you don't really need an app in a dash cam.

If you decide to go with it make sure you get the parking mode hardwire kit.

Noob here, did a bunch of research and as typical it's more involved than I had anticipated.
You have to narrow down what you want to get meaningful answers.
Examples,
What resolutions, 1080, 2k, 4k ?
How many cameras, 1, 2, 3, more?
Is GPS information needed for speed and trip plotting?
Wifi for download of videos or just pull the memory card?
Display screen, useful for fast review and setup?
Do you want 24hr monitoring, time-lapse or impact only?
Hidden or small to reduce impact on visibility?

For me the driving factor was being able to see behind me. So at first I tried a cam with a small screen and that worked but I now wanted something larger. That led to try a dash cam that uses a rear view mirror cam from Wolfbox and that's what I needed.

Ironically, I don't remember seeing a dash mounted dash cam, they all mounted to the windshield or mirror. :)

I second the Viofo 139pro, after a dump truck dropped slag all over the road and cracked my windshield I decided to pick one up. I hardwired it to the fuse panel and have 24 hour surveillance on it. The front camera you can’t even see mounted in front of the review mirror. The only two negatives are pulling video off of it requires you to connect to its WiFi, it’s a pain in the ass. I’ve just been pulling the SD card and downloading everything to my phone. Also you have to use specific SD cards for it to work flawlessly. Pics below

Stay away from this one... It's too big and requires film changes to keep it ready; not to mention It's nearly impossible to mount on the dash.

In my bronco I've installed the Wolfbox 900 or whatever (they all seem the same). I wanted front and back cameras.

That being said, this video (although I think is over a year old now) has some really great information about dash cams and their actual sensors - spoiler: a lot of them use the same sensor, but some are better than others.

I have the Viofo (A129) Pro DUO, hard wired to the under dash fuse box for 24 hour motion detection recording. I second the PITA access via wifi, basically can only do it from my android if the vehicle off as my phone wants to fight to go back to the bronco wifi.

Nearly completely hidden from view in the front, and I bent up a piece of aluminum to mount the rear camera on the B-pillar cross bar.

I've had previous versions of the Viofo cameras and they have been reliable thus far.

I suspect that they use whatever the high end sensor name is regardless of the sensor. Sort of how every cheap LED bulb uses CREE LEDs when you know they don't. I wouldn't trust a dash cam company on what sensor they use unless I saw the invoice from the sensor manufacturer...

Answers o these questions depend on your intended use mode. Mine is strictly for security and accident events, so I never look at the videos and never download them. I wanted something that has good resolution for license plates, at night whenever possible. Wanted front and back recording in case someone reaerends me so 2ch recording was a must. I wanted recording while parked so a hardware capability was a must. Running wires to the back of the bronco is a bit of a PITA particularly across the A pillar so thin cables and compact connectors were highly desired.

I have a small picatiny BYOD rail on the dash on the off chance that I ever want to record something "for fun".

PS 3ch recordings are mostly for Lyft and Uber drivers.

Aesthetics of the camera itself also matter to me, so all my cars have Thinkware F200 Pro front/rear cameras. It's only 1080p, not 4K, but all have been reliable.

I have the rear mounted to the rollbar similar to Monster1926, though in a slightly different position. You can see my mounting position and the resulting field of view in this Thingiverse project: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5508501

A little vinyl where you mount the camera helps with a cleaner appearance, too.

Even if you get 4K, it's good practice to say a license plate out loud if it's important. Just don't be one of those people who excitedly yells *I GOTTA DASHCAM* at the slightest inconvenience on the road ;)

The company COOAU has range of dash cams w Amazon low prices
We use the M53 only $28 - great bang for buck
In our Broncos we have two - front & back
