However, $20k for the portals is a huge amount of money, so my question is, are you better off putting that $20K into tires/wheel/suspension upgrades, and would you end up with a more capable Bronco?

I Ponder this as well, especially when looking at APG suspension upgrade goodies!!!

in reality, it all boils down to your intended use and trails/terrain/speeds you plan to drive on.

I do not think so.... but that is just my opinion. But if you are spending that much why would you not also do the tires/and suspension upgrades? I think the wheels are unnecessary.

But again.... What is so fun is we all arrive at different answers. And that makes every single Bronco different. And that is cool!

Best part of the Bronco is you go through that madness and once you hit the pavement heading back home the thing rolls so smooth you feel like Matthew McConaughey cruising in a Lincoln contemplating life.

I KNOW it does not take an unlimited budget....... My budget is about the same as I would have spent on a BRaptor. That was the choice I made when I purchased.... This or the BRaptor.

APG is beautiful stuff, and I would love to do a suspension upgrade through their company, though you could easily spend $20K or more. But my question remains, would you end up with a more capable truck?
Based on a Bronco for all round daily use, including rock crawling...

Portals should be shipping next week is my guess..... and I added the rack and coil overs from Accutune.

currently I will have less into it than the Braptor they tried to talk me into. So I still have a little budget left.

Personally, I think if you're willing to drop $30k on upgrades for off roading purposes, these portals should be in the mix. As BigMeatsBronco says, a lot of it is what you want them for; maybe mid/long travel suits you best? Maybe more suspension for better handling but clearance not so much? A Dana 60 and portals are beyond my ability, but I might could get to a place to afford portals and all the other stuff.

If you go back when Jeffe did 777 before, there’s no comparison. Still lifted his leg to pee a few times but wayyyyyy less scrapping this time. This might sell a few more sets!

those are Sooo awesome. My only issue is the extra leverage and stress applied to the rear axle housing. The m220 rear axle is at its maximum capacity with 37-38" tires, and 40s and a heavy right foot will destroy the rear end... (mine lost both wheel bearings and broke the ring gear)... The extra leverage from the 3.8" of lift will most likely cause distortion at the center section that is already marginally strong enough.

My solution is to add the Ultimate Dana 60 rear axle FIRST, then add the portals later to the much stronger rear axle.

I'll start a thread showing the carnage and the new UD60 install next week when it arrives.

Plenty of other tricks not to rub like he did. That front bumper sticks out way to far and an actual 1-2" more of lift would get you pretty close to where he is at now with portals.

Those bumpers I chalk up to "I just bought portals and can't afford anything but rice and broth", even if we all suspect he didn't pay full freight at least... Really, somebody give the man some new bumpers. Geez.
