Wow....i didn't realize how muddy the water is with these FP tunes and Ford warranties. I was reading about it on the Mustang and Ranger forums in regards to the 2.7 ecoboost. Below is the Ranger thread i just read. I think I understand now. Under 3yrs/36k, any issues to the Bronco, that is caused by the FP tune, is picked up by the FP warranty. After the bumper-to-bumper warranty expires, any issues caused by the FP tune is on your dime, BUT you don't lose your powertrain warranty....it remains intact. If you have a powertrain issue, and it is NOT caused by the FP tune, then your powertrain warranty will cover the repair(s). I guess the trick here is rather or not the issue is blamed on the FP tune under the powertrain warranty period....

https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/ford-performance-pack-warranty-what-does-it-cover.11111/

.
Exactly how I read it. My concern is "caused by the FP tune" is a subjective call, and potentially the source of a lot of variances in coverage.

Well Lawyer Bacon...

I would argue that your interpretation seems to be different than what many on here are reporting that the dealers are interpreting it to mean...

"Installation of these select Ford Performance warranted performance packs and components by an authorized installer will NOT void your New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Engine, driveline and suspension concerns remain eligible for warranty coverage according to the terms of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty."

this "New Vehicle Limited Warranty" appears to be unchanged from the date of purchase and as agreed to by both parties... Ford is advertising this product as not severing or changing any Warenties.
Where did you see your verbiage? It's different than what I read. The "not caused by the use of Ford Performance parts" is missing in yours, between "concerns" and "remain".

Yeah, i was totally on board with getting the FP tune (still might) for my 2023 Wildtrak, but the powertrain warranty coverage after 3yrs/36k has me 2nd guessing it now. From what I've read, the 2.7 ecoboost reliability appears a little too sketchy on the Broncos for me to risk losing that powertrain warranty. I'll need to have a conversation with my dealership's service department beforehand.

Mr bacon clearly stated

Here is the clause that makes me read the coverage the way I do (bold my addition):

I therefore removed his addition and highlighted another part without adding any verbiage.

Seems a @Ford Motor Company representative would enter this thread and verify what’s what. It is after all a Ford authorized, Ford licensed upgrade.

The non tune 2.7 holds shifts and keeps the revs high while in sport mode. Are the revs high and shifts held in normal mode post tune?

No and they don't have to, given the increased power output over the whole RPM range.

I ordered the Ford Performance tune to day for my 2.7 SAS Badlands. I asked about the advantages of having it installed by the Ford Dealer vs doing it myself. The answer I got from the parts guy was that Ford could still deny a warranty claim if hey feel it was caused by the tune, when I talked to the service manager he said that as long as the dealership can show that the tune is the Ford performance Tune, Ford will honor any warranty claims with the motor or powertrain.

I asked if it made a difference if I installed the tune or had them do it and he said no, only matters if its Ford approved tune. So I will be installing it myself and saving the $380 in labor for other parts.

FYI that labor charge is outrageous, esp for AZ. I live in Seattle and my dealer only charges $200 for installation, and they don't care where do you buy the part (ProCal)

That’s really good to hear. I got an email saying my tune has shipped. Looking forward to installing it.

Ya they said it's 3 hours of Labor, I suspect they estimate the hours on these types of jobs.

Installed the tune today - it certainly gave it more pep. what number are people using for 37 in tires for revolutions? I entered 579 and I am about 1 mph faster than what GPS indicated.

Coming to this thread way late. I recently lifted my Bronco and this allows me to adjust tire revolutions as well as shut off start/stop. That was a big perk in itself but the power is also desirable (shift points too) obviously. I don't mind running 91 octane but will it damage my engine if I run 87. I don't feel like there was a clear resolution to that answer.

So the issue with running 87 on a tune (or running premium on a non-tune)

The octane rating is a measure for how well the fuel will resist knocking. Higher boost levels and spark advance lead to more power - but it also can make fuel pre-detonate (knock, or ping) if it’s too aggressive. The pinging can, over time, pit cylinders and damage them.

On the stock tune - the engine is tuned pretty conservatively, and can modestly advance timing and boost a bit if doesn’t detect any knock. This is where you can get a bit of a boost on the stock just by filling up with premium.

With the FPT - it starts out more aggressive assuming you have higher test gas in the first place. If it detects pinging it will start to retard to save the engine. So a tank here or there of 87 probably won’t break your engine, but running it constantly isn’t good - you should flash back to stock if that’s your plan.

That’s part of the difference: stock tune will start safe and tip toe up to something modestly more aggressive; FPT starts out aggressive and drops back when it detects problems, but you will have probably had knock events in the cylinders before it knows to derate back down, and it will keep knocking until it finds that safe level. Stock tune will ramp up until it sees any ping at all, then back it down a notch and call it good.
