Started working on audio upgrade and found the under steering column bracket already rusting. Guess I should replace before I attach my amplifier. You'd think @Ford Motor Company would use decent quality materials in an off-road topless vehicle. Anyone know replacement part #? Only a year old, garage kept.

I sure hope you're not considering buying the part to replace it - It should be covered under warranty. That's ridiculous, and such an odd spot too.

Literally every vehicle out there is going to have a piece of steel like that somewhere in its interior.. rust and all..

Its what happens to unpainted steel after all... doesn't even need to be extremely humid for flash to form..

Please don't use up precious ford warranty work for that lol. People gotta get their cam phasers replaced and shit... THAT is a problem.

Eh, no biggie. Mine was a little rusty too. I just removed the rust and hit it with some paint. I have an MX575 mounted to that bracket.

Right? Doesn't get much exposure to anything, wind, salt, air?? I'll show to dealer, but one never knows in this day and age of pretend quality.

I think this same part has been posted here before for the same reason. This is not a big deal and no need to replace. The OEM's do not spend money on paint or powder coating for parts that can't be seen. IF you pulled the dash out you will find all sorts of brackets and IP beam weldments that are like this. There is no reason to worry here, that is just surface rust. If it bugs you enough take the part off, remove the surface rust and rattle can it with some tremclad or something like it

Mine picked up rust too which I thought was weird. I am with the group that says sand and paint. I imagine if I took in for warranty replacement I would be out a Bronco for 3-4 days for them to get to it, then another few days to get the part.

Agreed. But if I can find it cheap, then remove and replace is easy. Stay clear of dealer on this one.

That is normal and not going to hurt a darned thing. That is certainly not the only bare metal bracket rusting behind your dash. In fact, I spy rust elsewhere.

Now, if it were a Bilstein shock reservoir, I'd say buckle up.

yeah that wont be covered under warranty
that is is not a customer visible piece(without taking off panels), and its function is absolutely not impacted

Sounds like a job for Nick @Mountains2Metal . Imagine a column bracket that didn't rust, yet also had a squatch carrying an American flag.
*wipes patriotic tear away

I spot about 3 or 4 other brackets in there that have surface rust as well. Perfectly normal and if you want it fixed you are going to have to do so yourself, either with some paint or a new bracket.

@flip can probably source the part number for you
