It's not so much about it being cost effective, but rather if you try to put the tab back on, and the procedure fails, then you still have an inop rear defroster that now CAN'T be repaired. For Ford Warranty, they (believe it or not) DO want you to be happy with the repair and have everything functioning properly...once you get them to cover it. I did have a dealer try to tell me that because they'd have to replace the back glass (on a different vehicle) that it wouldn't be covered...after a bit of arguing and a call to the OEM it turns out it WAS a warranty repair and coverable, but the dealer still didn't want to do it - they wanted to push it off on me to try the glue repair first.Having read this thread, and others with the same topic, dealers having to replace the entire back window seems completely absurd to me. But what do I know.
I’m not saying I’m right here, but maybe a 10 minute repair with glue is not cost / revenue beneficial to dealers and, thus, changing out the glass under warranty allows their shops to bill 1.5 hours rather than 0.16 hours. **caveat emptor: I made up these numbers. Fake News.**
Giving dealers the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they replace the entire glass b/c Ford predicts that, eventually, both sides will fail.
I just purchased the Permatex adhesive from amazon. I’m starting there. I guess if the other side fails I’ll either fix it again myself or bring it to the dealership.
