False Alarm. Hood open - Security Alert.

I have had 3 or 4 "false alarms" with the Bronco telling me the hood was open or partially open, and I should immediately correct the problem. Twice, while driving down the freeway. Knowing that the hood was NOT open, I ignored the warning beeps and light, and they went away in a few moments. Wife had one alert yesterday while parked. Anyone else? Is it the hood struts that just apply a bit too much pressure occasionally, just enough to set off the alert? Any thoughts suggestions welcome, and thanks in advance.

Mine does this from time to time. You can try adjusting the hood struts/springs. They might be strong to tight (pushing up). I lowered mine a bit (one full rotation down). This helped with closing the hood, making it much easier vs slamming it down. And also helped with the number of hood alarms but I still do get them. At somepoint ill get it looked at at the dealer. They should replace the latch based on what others have said/done. But even after doing that, others reported it still happening.

I will look into "adjusting" the hood struts. I thought they only came in one pressure level. Could be an easy solution. Thanks!

I’m monitoring this issue too, happened to me once on the road and once on the trail. It appears to be a bad sensor or the latch truly isn’t all the way snug on hood. I adjusted the rubber stops for hood and playing with that for now. Since adjusting the rubber stops, the hood is more level. Make sure to measure so each bump stop is same level.

I also read you can clean the sensor with wd 40 and that eliminates the problems in some cases. But have to be careful not to get it on paint. Might do that as a last resort before scheduling with the dealer.

Happened to me once on a really washboardy, potholed dirt road (about 12 miles long). Was towing my teardrop at the time, at the end of a 350 mile drive. Stopped, opened and closed the hood, no change. The next morning it was OK, and I did the same trip about a month later and it didn't happen, but if it does, I'll check the struts and maybe adjust them.

Get it looked at by the dealer soon.
it is a quirk and they will replace while under warranty. Call and make an appointment. Tell them that your hood latch sensor is making your alarm go off. I have my appointment do it while it’s free guys

I’ve had my “Hood Ajar” warning come on several times. Only occurs first start after being parked overnight connected to my maintainer. Has always cleared after re-closing the hood (although it was securely closed/latched at the time of all warnings). Never had it happen while underway.

I replaced the latch myself rather than take it to the dealer. The part is cheap and solved the problem. I also adjusted hood better than the factory clown who put it together.

Agreed. I had this problem during my first few months of ownership, and it drove me crazy. Adjusting the hood struts didn’t solve the problem. I took it to the dealer to replace the hood latch, and it hasn’t been a problem since.
