Welp. Looks like I'll be keeping my original software...forever, I guess. I disabled all of those features as soon as I got it home.

Dumb Question.. How do I tell if I had any OTA Updates Done?
Go on your FordPass app, hit vehicle on the bottom, then features and settings. Hit Software Updates and it'll tell you when you were updated. If you click that, it'll tell you what the software update did and sometimes the version as well.

This is the story I've been waiting for...

A hackers dream come true. Send a corrupt OTA update to all Fords at once and BRICK them all. 🤣 šŸ˜‚ 🤣

Thos is the most unbelievable bullshit of modern era vehicles. Let's let the Russians figure out how to hack our vehicles for us and teaches how to do it ourselves and then go to war with them...,

And before that let's Outsource all the programming to some third world country that can't speak English so that went to all everything is bricked we can't even fix our own shit.

American brilliance.

Before we were all worried about EMTs with all this electrical hardware and software but now we got to worry about over-the-air updates being worse than that and breaking our shit unfixable too.

Or maybe it's a Chinese balloon with some sort of electrical equipment and Russian programming that captures the over-the-air update swirls it around with their own computer program and corrupts the file and then sends the over the air update back out to your Ford Bronco

Gosh I kind of want an old Cummins diesel with a mechanical fuel pump right about now
Are you okay?

I too was wondering this. I checked my app and it seems like I haven’t even received any updates at all. I would expect to see something like ā€œYou are on version 1.2.3ā€ both on my app and my car. But all I see is the below image on my app. My car just says I have the most recent version, which seems like BS. I have my car connected to my home WIFI too.

But based on what the OP has experienced, I better change my update time - assuming I ever get an update. I don’t have full screen Car Play, so I know I’m behind on updates, but how far behind, I have no idea.

OP, I hope you get back up and running soon. Totally sucks that you are in the hole on the rental for something that you had no part in!

Two things.

One: Military has a saying, tip of the spear. You don't wanna be that. Turn off automatic updates but don't wait forever unless you never update (which is it's own risk). The onus is on you. The longer you go, the bigger the update, the bigger the risk it'll go wrong or a security fix will get missed. However, let some other sucker get that thing first and see how it goes.

Two: Before updating, park it at the dealership somewhere where they gotta fix it. lol 🤐

Can't wait til they wanna put this stuff in our brains. Hmm, Elon got OTA's going with Tesla ten years ago (Ford et al are playing catch up), he also owns Neuralink, which wants to... put software in our brains. Buyer beware, until there's no choice.

Update: 11am Ford In Vehicle Technology customer service rep recommendations to avoid this in the future, "A "Brick" could happen if the update is scheduled at or around 12am, you also need to have parking brake on with lights completely off and not in the auto setting. We recommend 1am for the update time. "
Love how this looks like Ford is trying to push some of the blame to you...
Why don't they program the vehicle to do the update at the "recommended" hours if it's that important?

They didn’t blame me. That was the recommendations I received when I asked how I should avoid this in the future. It seemed it was a well known issue that is rare but happens from the in vehicle tech support team. The dealership said they have never heard of this.

What a fascinating new way for a vehicle to break down!
Can you imagine with Big Brother can do to us in the future due to the fact that new cars are able to be updated.

If I am following you, you had the above recall and the dealership had your Bronco for 2 days and was not able to correct the recall with Ford's "fix" so they told you to come get it without the recall being corrected and you have not had an update since then...

I believe I had/have the same recall. The CS rep mentioned that same description over the phone on my initial call after it wouldn't start. I am a little nervous that means they don't have a fix yet.

I was reading through this thinking WTF, then I read the ā€œbringing new features and other improvementsā€ in the update screenshot. maybe this update is fords attempt at fixing mpg. Can’t drive it, can’t burn fuel.šŸ¤”

i have had several new vehicles that have had this OTA feature and with the exception on one car I was able to turn that feature off on the rest of them. When I go in for oil changes I have the dealer apply urgent updates there so if they breaky they fixy.

sincerely hope they get you back on the road soon OP.
