Basesquatch isn't a base.

All that base Bronco needs is alloy wheels. Ford is leaving money on the table not offering it.

yeah it is. i can't help it there are no factory options for the base/low end glads. a base model with options is still a base model, no?? if i were comparing it to say a WT or a braptor, yeah, i'd agree you'd have a point.

I rented a Gladiator this week for work. Figured it would be fun to drive and an opportunity to compare it to my Bronco after 3 months of ownership and 4,500 miles.

This isn't meant to trigger the Jeep folks, because the Jeep brand deserves a ton of credit for continuously offering the Wrangler and its variants as an interesting alternative to boring vehicles for decades.

With that said, I'm not joking when I say I would have returned this thing and grabbed a different vehicle if I had the time. The driving characteristics of a Gladiator vs. a Bronco are literally night and day, and being in the Gladiator gave me a whole new level of appreciation for the Bronco's road manners.

Gladiator steering at 75MPH is like giving vague suggestions as to what direction the truck should go. As a driver who represents the majority of buyers (someone who uses the vehicle as a daily driver and goes off road occasionally), I can confidently say I would have sold a Gladiator almost immediately. I'm glad they exist and think they look great, just surprised at the wildly unrefined on-road characteristics!

I've had three Cherokee's and a Wrangler and I like Jeeps. I thought hard about getting a Gladiator before I had my Bronco. But when I found the manual transmission Gladiator I wanted and took it for a test drive, I was really disappointed. I realized I wouldn't want to drive it every day on or off the highway. A year or so later, when I hopped into my 7 speed manual transmission Bronco, I had the opposite reaction. I loved it. There is no comparison between the two.

I really need a pick up and the Gladiator checks many more boxes than the Bronco does for me. I specifically like the Gladiator Mojave. It has 1" suspension higher lift in the front than the Rubicon. And the tires are just big enough from all the other "stock" Gladiators that the tires look way too small. I have not driven one. I sold my 97 Jeep TJ to get my current 2022 2 door Basesquatch and the 97 drove and handled great to me. I did nto have any steering issues. Yes the Bronco steers better, it's just a matter of getting used to the steering. What is interesting to me is that the MPG rating for a Mojave Gladiator is 16 and 23 with the 6 speed manual, which is the way I would get it. My Basesquatch is 17/17. Why does the Gladiator get such a better rating? I get 22 in my Basesquatch driving with super light foot. I wonder what I would get in the Gladiator. That all being said I love my Bronco so much I bought a 1987 Chevy V10 4 X 4 short box classic for my pick up duties. I am restoring it. Cheap to insure and I take it to car shows as a bonus. Try the steering on that compared to the Bronco!

Owned a Gladiator for two years before trading it for the bronco. I loved it overall! But it definitely didn’t handle as nicely on road as the bronco and was definitely more cramped. I miss it sometimes but I’m much happier in the bronco.

I agree I drove my brothers did not like the way it drove at all and the feeling of being so cramped in the driver seat was not a good feeling. My Bronco feels like you have so much more room when driving and it drives like a car like you said night and day.

that concerns me about the Gladiator since I'm 6-1 and about 250lb. when i checkd out the bronco it was awfully comfy in the drivers seat.

I know I am not the only one(even if its a small group) that would love to see a bronco with a bed seeing how many gladiators I see out. I am still hoping for bronco with a bed one day
Isn't that called a Ranger?
Not quite.

Not sure why Ford would make a Bronco truck when they already have a midsize truck in the Ranger.
Because the Ranger doesn’t have the same 4-wheel-drive system the Bronco has, you can’t get it with a stick, and, well… It looks like a Ranger.

If they could put a Bronco-style body on the Ranger, keep the tow rating close to where it is, offer a stick shift and lockers, they wouldn’t even need the Ranger. They have the F150 and the Maverick. If they’re going to offer a “midsize” truck for basically the same price as the F150, at least make it cool!

Let's not lose the thread of where this started:

get one that has a mild lift and nice wheels/35-37's and a couple exterior accessories
"The base looks better when it has a mild lift and 35s"

Basesquatch = Base with mild lift and 35s.

I would absolutely love this. It could essentially be a parts bin special since the truck is already built on the ranger platform. with the upcoming Ranger Raptor, this is a no-brainer!

I almost bought a Gladiator while waiting for the Bronco. Drove it and then passed. Ford would absolutely kill it in this space with minimal R&D. Develop the single Moar Door since while everyone says they will buy a standard cab, they won't.

Cause some of us just have to take the top and doors off. It's sort of why I bought an otherwise impractical vehicle. I don't think the updates Ranger includes these features and we soft top folks have a massive practically permanent bar preventing us from actually fitting any substantial items in the back.

My mom has a Gladiator with the upgraded Fox suspension and 37” tires.

I agree fully with your post.
Dang! Your mom must be really cool rolling on 37s. I have a Gladiator on 33s and I for one am extremely jealous of your mother.

"The base looks better when it has a mild lift and 35s"

Basesquatch = Base with mild lift and 35s.
false equivalency. you can't even buy a gladiator in it's highest trim with 35's from teh factory. you have NO OPTION but to run to the aftermarket to make it look good. the gloss black wheels on the high trims help but still dont get it there. so I could revise my statement to say even the top line Rubicon looks better with a mild lift and 35-37's on it.

so you can mince words all you want, until you go aftermarket you still can't make a gladiator look as good as a basesquatch. and the bronco still $10-15k cheaper than those 'high trim' glads that still require aftermarket 'help', you simply can't get it from the factory looking as badass as the factory base bronco. besides, it's more than ~just wheels and tires~ as I noted in the original post as well, 'other exterior accessories' as well.
