Wondering if it still overheats the phone as much as previous years.

Don’t know how hot a 2021 or 2022 makes the phone, but my 2023 microwaves the shit out of my phone.

Thanks. Is that with a 2023? I’ve heard a lot of ‘22 and ‘21 owners complain

Can't compare to earlier years, but mine seems to work just fine without overheating.

Android device, lux w/manual.

Doesn't seem particularly fast, but it holds a charge while engaged with Android auto.

It shouldn’t matter - the heat is a derivative of energy transfer (thermodynamics) and both phones have power requirements that have to be met before allowing that energy transfer to begin. The iPhone is more stringent because [insert arguments about protecting battery versus making you buy a charger with the apple tax].

Regardless, the heat issue is likely because the ford charger is getting hot or the phones are bouncing around creating an inefficient interface between the phones and the charger. The phones get enough signal to allow the charge but then the wireless interface is working double time.

im not an expert or an electrical engineer but I am an engineer positing some info and a best guess to the forum here

I was a on some trails today and my iphone just stopped working because of how hot it was sitting on that tray, what gives! I use a wireless charger at home and its cool as a cucumber, so what's up with the Bronco one? Has anyone used a wireless charger with a phone holder to attach to our accessory mount on the dash. I think that would be the best of both worlds. Has someone installed the Mabett wireless charger? I know they have a charger, but it runs around $200+.

Thanks all. Seems Ford may not have improved their charger in the 2023 MY based on varied responses here.

My 2023 w/ wireless charger cooks my Samsung S22 Ultra. I drove for over 40 mins and got an additional 4% charge and a piping hot phone for my trouble. The phone said it was fast charging...lol. I'm concerned about both what damage it's doing to my hella expensive phone and what's the point if I'm only getting these kind of charge rates from a "fast charging" charger? Is this normal? Can't be right?? Fail so far.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Sorry to hear this continues to suck. I’d like Lux for the heated wheel (arthritis) and adaptive cruise…but that charger seems to take away the prime spot I’d put my phone. Can it be disabled in the settings?

I put a magsafe USB-C charger on top of the factory charger... just double-sided taped it down. It charges faster than the factory one and my phone doesn't melt. Just my $.02

I have not seen an option to disable it. FWIW, if you're concerned about it, you can put anything down to block the charger from your phone so it can still be used as just a tray.
