If it were me, and this was your only issue to note at the moment, I’d say go for it. Long stints of mileage at operating temp would seem to be a way to ensure the lowest wear on the grinding components. I’ve put many thousands of miles on mine since it started making this noise last winter and I haven’t noticed much increase in frequency or volume, other than when I take it to the mountains and the weather gets extremely cold overnight.Yeah I'm more concerned about the window of the actual repair. After my rock fiasco last year I have no confidence in the dealer to make a repair quickly. What if they find something else once it's cracked open and I have to wait months because it's on back order.
So do I risk driving all over the country like it is and have them crack it open next fall, or do I roll the dice that they'll get it done quickly before summer?
