Manual transmission scraping noise / grinding sound

i have complained of this too. Another member dealing with trans noise said his tech discovered oil leaking somewhere behind maybe crank case cover or something? , i cant recall but they had same smell. my dealer kind of shrugged me off when i mentioned the smell claimed it just the new car chemical burning off still after 2500 miles but they saw no leaks. whether its related or not, i had them switch me to full synthetic oil and i have not noticed the smell since, about 3 weeks now. i also put my nose and smell the corner hood seam near mirror and i cant smell burning anymore which i often could after any extended driving or warm up

I have that smell as well but only on longer (30+ min) drives as well.

Interesting. Mine definitely was not an oil burning smell. Burning brakes and clutches have similar odors to each other - both are pungent and acrid. I suppose if oil can get into the clutch, then the clutch could slip and thus cause the burning smell.

Clutch break in is real, and would cause a pungent brake/clutch smell for sure. As would brake break-in.

The 2.3L EcoBoost in other vehicles has some known oil leak locations, but they're all fairly tricky to diagnose and almost always are the result of incorrectly done service like a head gasket job or turbo replacement, or something similarly invasive. I'd be very surprised if you had oil seepage on a new 2.3L EcoBoost this early in its life. If you'd like to investigate an oil leak yourself, the best tool in the arsenal is a wireless borescope like the Klein Tools ET16 or ET20.

i felt it smelled more like burning brakes myself but I've noticed it on just warming up not even driving. after say maybe 10min warmup idle, cleaning snow off it.

Since I swapped my oil for full synthetic i have not noticed the smell which was roughly 3 weeks ago. i could smell it often prior. if it continues then i would be concerned but transmission needs fixed first. they can take a second look while they are down there at that point. thanks for the info on the Klein Tools. since 2015 i have owned 3 brand new off the lot Silverado's and girlfriend just bought a 2022 CR-V and never have i smelled anything like the smell the bronco has let off for me for the first 2200 miles and other reports of the smell.

Good morning. Can you please send over a private message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer? I would like to see what I can do to assist with your Bronco's transmission issues.

I reached out to you nearly 3 months ago and was told a customer experience specialist would reach out to me and that I should get in touch with my dealer. Gotta case number and everything on October 25 from you. (Spoiler alert- never got contacted by a “customer experience specialist” or anyone who knows squat about the issue). Got contacted by the dealer late in the day today and missed the call. They left a voicemail saying they have information on my Bronco that is with them now for the TSB. Will call back when they are open in the morning. Detailed info would be really nice straight from Ford so we all know what’s going on. Thanks for putting on a good show and pretending to help when we all just went straight to our dealers anyways

added my info to the sheet
also adding my truck needs to go in sooner than later. started up after work 51 degrees, the noise was much worse. Only thing different was I drove for 45 minutes in one go today, so far my drives have been 20 minutes or less. cooling off tonight and I will listen tomorrow am. I am travelling so truck won't go in till next week.......unless dealership is backlogged

hoping we get a lot of members filling in the spreadsheet and it sheds some light. Having said that after three entries on transmission dates the range is already almost 13 months

Man I really thought I was done with this tracking BS when I got the bronco.

Just when I thought I was out of the game, boom, shift gears (1st or 2nd), boom right back in the game.

Minor update on mine, about 1,000 miles, sound has progressed to basically full time through first and second and at any temp and neutral above 1,200 rpms, and I can hear it on other gear when not under load, (coasting). Also I swore a couple times yesterday I could smell burnt clutch, and now y’all got me F’ed up, so thanks for that.

I completed my transmission oil change with synchro mesh II, no change in noise. But I will be sending it to blackstone once the sample kit arrives. I just got back my analysis on the engine oil I sent from my first oil change and I was impressed with the analysis they did. High hopes for some good info from the transmission oil.
