Goes away after warmup?
Well it was pretty warm when I fired up, 50-55deg in the garage...possibly why the noise was faint. It did fade away as the truck reached temp. Been plenty cold here in central Maine but been so busy at work the truck has been in the garage, hasn't been driven much the past couple months. I'm going to pull it outside overnight and see if the sound is worse.

So if I drive mine for extended time 30+ minutes I do notice the noise quiets significantly but most of the time it sounds like I'm dragging crap. I've learned to throw it in N while rolling past people so they don't hear it, kind of embarrassing when you have this beautiful, new, low availability vehicle but sound like you are dragging your neighbors chain link fence
I'm hoping a few of you guys w/a real severe noise like that get the TSB done so we can get a real idea of if it works, or are other "hard parts" involved. According to the FB post that was crossposted here, the tech ordered additional hard parts (1 synch hub and 1 gear I believe?), and the poster claims his trans is perfect now. 5th and 6th gear synchro rings rubbing together. Only one person claiming TSB was good so far but i think less than 2 weeks since that service. Love the vehicle overall myself and aside from this its been a fun ride but im also not convinced the TSB is doing more than replacing damaged parts not necessarily addressing by they went bad in first place.
There are not enough completed TSBs in the wild to make a determination if it works or not yet. The only report we have also noted that the tech replaced additional parts, not listed in the TSB. What we do have multiple reports of, is trannys which were replaced w/new units only to have the noise return shortly after. If you scroll up a few pages, there are copies of the TSB posted in this thread...however TSBs DO frequently get superseded.
I am wondering also. I'm not excited about the techs at the dealership monkeying around in the transmission. I'm waiting on a real answer from Ford like this:

Spoke to my dealer yesterday about the issue. They have not even heard of this issue yet. Definitely going to wait a bit and hope there is more confidence in the fix before I have the guys take things apart. I sent them the TSB and a link to this thread
If we all sit around waiting for each other to get the TSB scheduled then when are they going to complete any to determine that actually fixes the issue. My personal perspective is get that thing in the system and the issue known as early as possible. Don't sit on it because when it comes time to cover under warranty or lemon laws you then have a long paper trail to argue with.

Good point and if my dealership had heard of the issue, I may feel differently. Maybe after they have had time to read the TSB that I sent them I will revisit. I just hate the thought of techs taking things apart without fully understanding the issue or the fix. I was in the “wait around and don’t let a tech open my transmission” camp originally too, but came around when I realized nothing will change unless most of us get this work done and put the ball back in Ford’s court. If the TSB somehow resolves the issue for good then hell yeah. If not, then waiting around will do nothing but harm you in the end as you wait for your warranty to expire. At which point, Ford will play you the smallest violin even if your transmission decides to explode.
Take it from me — I’m about to replace my own Focus RS head gasket at just under 50,000 miles and 6 years of ownership because my dealership did it wrong when that TSB originally came out
