2.3 in Squatched 2-Doors Sufficient?

Slow cruising on pavement, off pavement, off road, just ambles along wherever you want to go. This is a 'smell the roses' type of vehicle. You want a fast car, then go buy one. You want a stupid fast vehicle? Go buy a liquid cooled motorcycle. Fast in the desert? Get a Raptor.

I'll just add, even the short wheel base 2dr is stable at straight hi highway speeds.

I have had no problem road trippin it. 4 hours one way, several times.
Damn few Wranglers pass the Bronco at Interstate speeds. LOL.

Jumping from 30 to 35 inch tires did have a negative impact at Interstate speeds, but I have no issue running it at 80mph.
33's on 17's will be the sweet spot.

Have the 2.3L with Sasquatch (2 Door), no problems on the road, plenty of power, set the cruise at 75 and go. rarely downshifts on the hills around here. probably would in the Rockies.

I've got a 2.3L in my 2-door OBX (non-SAS); and compared to my 92 Eddie Bauer FSB with a 5.8, my 2.3L is a freaking rocket.

I'm frequently on the interstate at 75+ with one hand on the wheel, passing Wrangler drivers holding on to their steering wheels with white knuckles on both hands, lol....

Remember no one has ever said I wish I got a smaller engine--with less horse power and torque. If you want the 2.7 get the 2.7 because you will always second guess yourself--especially if the issues with the 2.7 are limited and few and far between.

I have the 2.7 in my Big Bend without the Sasquatch package. I chose the larger engine for three reasons:

1. You will never regret getting the more powerful engine. I thought the 2.3 Ecoboost would be fine in my first S550 Mustang. I was wrong and traded for a GT in less than a year. As they say “no ragrets”
2. My 2018 F-150 had the 2.7 and I was amazed at how quick the truck was with such a “small” engine. Also the 10A works quite well with the engine, very smooth.
3. I drove a 2.3/10A Badlands Sasquatch mannequin from my dealer and did not like the sound (same problem in the Mustang) or the overall feel and performance of the powertrain.

Of course this is a personal decision, much like 2dr vs. 4dr or “to Squatch or not to Squatch” that only the buyer has to live with.

Another Base, manual with 35's , 4.46 gears here.

at 4.46, it is just a tiny bit over geared.
4.70 w/35's will be the sweet spot. As will 4.46 w/33's.

Good to hear, and your Bronco is lookin nice! The reincarnation of the EB. Base manual with the 4.46 and aftermarket 33-35s is the sweet spot.

I've now had both. Had a the 2.3 badlands softtop for 5 months. I know people are saying it is way more than adequate. And maybe for them it was. But they still used the word adequate, and that's what it is. It goes ok, it does everything I put it thru offroad without really bitching. I got pretty decent mileage. About 20.5 mpg in 5 months combined. With lots of offroad days. It was my daily driver. About 8000 miles. After that long, there were times it was just meh... Sounds horrible. Sluggish in some situations. Meh.

Now I have 500 miles on my 2.7. I can already tell you it's way peppier, lighter on it's toes. Stronger all the time. No meh moments. The trans is sorting itself out... But still shifts great. Sounds 1000 times better. And without being broken in or being suuuper nice to the 2.7, my gas mileage thru a tank and a bit is about 18.5-19 mpg. And getting better. Not worried about any 2.7 issues. They will get fixed if you have any.

The title pretty much says it all.

Getting concerned about all the hand wringing over the 2.7 issues on this forum. I went with it for my build due to generally always leaning towards the more powerful engine when purchasing vehicles and only test driving one in a Squatched 2-door.
But now I'm reconsidering since the 2.3 is already used in 4-doors as well. Basic reasoning would lead me to believe the lighter weight of the 2-door may do just fine with the smaller engine. Just not sure if adding the Sasquatch package will make it too anemic...

Can any of you lucky souls that have already received 2-doors with the 2.3 AND the SAS package provide your personal feedback/opinions?

Have a 4 door ranger FX4 till Bronco arrives with 2.3 and a stick. It is more than capable with the 2.3l. No issues with accelation or cruising.

The 2.3 liter 4-cylinder has plenty of power in my opinion. I'm at just under 1600 miles, and never once have I wished I had the bigger engine.

2.3 Badlands with the automatic, lux, and Sasquatch. On top of that i have ridiculously heavy Fuel Blitz with Nitto Ridge Grapplers on it that weigh about 107# per.

I was worried about the 2.3 before I bought it. No longer. The gearing is great. Has plenty of power and torque to move along very well. Plenty of umph for merging, passing, ditching asshats that hang out too closely behind or in blind spots. Fuel mileage was 19.9 on the 1700 mile road trip home that included mixed roadways, mixed weather, and two adults with gear for the week.

I have only driven my 4 door non Sas (but still 33s and Badlands geared) 2.3L auto and I think the best word used to describe it is “sufficient”. It’s peppy, and like most turbos, it does it’s best work from 20-70mph. I’ve had it as fast as 86mph effortlessly on the interstate and there is still plenty more to give.
I’ve put close to 1000 miles on mine with a 50/50 mix of highway and city driving. I’ve never been disappointed with the power even with 3 full size adults in it.

one last thing to add though: when my order does come in, my build will be the 2.7 even though the 2.3 did fine

Never buy the base engine, you'll always wonder what you could've had. Will the 2.3L move it? Yes. Is it adequate? Barely.
