So does the B&O system need to be flashed reckon?
B&O is not compatible with the soundbar as far as I know. I have it and am pretty happy with the sound, and would not want a big speakers blocking the rear view (which is actually quite good, contrary to what some post, the spare barely peeks over the center headrest).

Mounting the soundbar upside down is an interesting idea and being that "far" away from the driver, probably makes little to no difference in what you hear from the back.

I might be interested in upgrading the rear speakers if someone finds out how to get full range, but so far I'm pretty happy with the surround sound setting on the B&O, just had to turn down the treble and need to stuff some acoustic mats behind the panels in the rear, sometimes there's a buzz - to be expected with a sub.

The head unit has a high pass crossover for the rear channel then. My guess is they knew with a 4 inch speaker to be heard back there, it would have to be cranked up. Problem then is if it isn’t high pass filtered, it would sound like jack because it’s distorting the 4” trying to produce bass. I understand why they did it with factory speakers.
Well if that's the case then it's a double fail! The rear speakers are useless in stock form!

I'm happy with the B&O, I think it's a decent little system. Where is the sub, might look into upgrading it maybe.

Yeah it usually is designed for a small speaker or one you want to use to focus on the high end of the audio spectrum (a normal practice for those that have experience with high quality sound systems) . Works well with good quality and amplified signal but definitely has to have bass fill from a subwoofer to sound good.

This has been addressed in many threads, forscan. You don't need a dealer to do it.
Please prove us all wrong then and point to these “many threads” and how forscan can correct this annoyance?

Here's the view from the front and the rear with the sound bar "upside-down" which puts it up high.

I thought since day one - why such a massive tube that hangs low and blocks the view. Why not a shallow sound bar shaped unit that mounts to the front of the roll bar?

I swear I read somewhere that during the flashing, the software has to talk to the sound bar do some sort of handshake. Maybe I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that they update won't work without a physical sound bar plugged in.

Now it doesn't mean you can't pull a soundbar back out and replug in your stock speakers afterwards (apparently this works based on the OP)

Can't wait to find out what FLIP discovers. The sucky sound system in the Bronco is one of the biggest disappointments.

Dare me to do it this morning. I'm working and going to have one of my techs reinitialize my windows and do a software update. While in, he can program for sound bar.

It can be done.

I buckled down and bought the sound bar that Ford is pushing (the JBL BB4000). It looks to be plug-n-play out of the box, because it uses the same connectors as the factory rear speakers. But, once you buy it, the installation instructions tell you to take it to the dealer after installing, so that the computer can be "flashed" to accept the sound bar.

I connected it up anyway without flashing it, and it sounded just like the factory rear speakers - high end unimpressive sound. I then took it to the dealer who "flashed" it for free. Then it performed like you would expect the sound bar to sound - full range and full of great sound.

Curious about this "flashing" business - just for kicks - I unplugged the sound bar and plugged back in the factory speakers I had removed - and viola - full sound range from the little factory speaker pods.

I don't know why it comes from the factory with limited rear speakers that way - but clearly it is intentionally limited.

To "flash" the audio, the sound bar instructions say you must have the FDRS software ACM (audio control module) to perform the "Audio Front Control
Module (ACM) Software Update." The trick then is - find out how to do that (or get the dealer to do the flash) without buying the sound bar.

The good thing is that I was able to tap into the rear speakers (instead of running wires all the way up to the front kick panel speakers) to add my subwoofer.

With the sound bar I've got the range all around and with a sub I'm done.

STILL - I wonder if I would have needed the sound bar if I could just broaden the range of the rear speaker pods.

Anyway - if this hasn't been posted before (I didn't find it - sorry if this is a repeat)- there's the answer.
I’d be interested in what your forscan info looks like for the acm. As well as what package mid, high you have wonder if we could look for differences and input those values and Get full range to the rears.

The soundbar is just a dumb non powered unit. I don’t see how that would be possible.

Agreed. Place the mids and highs up high, bass can go anywhere. There is enough room where the pods are to have made those a little bigger. Put a 6"-6.5" speaker in there make it full range so you can at least hear it! Cut it off at 180hz or so, so it doesn't rattle, make it a damn mid-bass. It makes no sense to me why they did it the way they did

This would be amazing if all we have to do is have the dealer flash for a sound bar.
